So, it happened, a quick resarch of this and this with a filter that doesn’t hide images, confirmed that at july 7th they were equal, so from july 8th onwards, Sunset is the 10th character with most images in here.

I would say both of them are very popular characters compared to their screen times.

Sunset is Best Girl
Genuinely, it should’ve been this way from the very beginning.
The only reason it wasn’t is because early on people really wanted to be featured on EQD, and that made the show bring back the character and actually give Trixie a more complete personality.

If it wasn’t frowned upon, I could easily spam 10K Sunset Shimmer AI generated images and ruin the numbers. It’s all I’ve been doing since December 2023 I had figured out how to make my own images of her which didn’t look like crap. I’m her biggest stalker…I mean fan!

And again, Trixie’s role never escaped being ultimately a relevant but still secundary character. In EG she made sporadic appereances, in the regular show she only appeared in Starlight episodes after S3 and I’m not sure what she did in IDW.
Sunset could have stories for herself and different dynamics from time to time with other characters. Sunset essentially took the “low startup high curve” of popularity whereas Trixie remained fairly linear.

It must also be said that Trixie made her debut 3 years earlier, while Sunset initially started out as a low-tier villain in a certainly less popular spin-off than FiM, but the fact that now she managed to beat Trixie by number of tags is proof of how much of a fan favorite character she became.
