I noticed that absolute most of artist draw Chrysalis with eyes being placed in front like in ponies, though, if you look at the canon model from a side, you’ll see that her eyes seem to be more on the sides, like in hare. I can see why ppl draw her differently/doesnt notice that detail, but i love it purely because of the fact, that it can provide her with around 320° vision<3

Yeah, I just think that they should’ve at least tried to handle it a fair bit better than they did.
I just think that with how the showrunners handled some issues at times, I thought they could have made Queen Chrysalis a far more complex character that was just always a cruel evil tyrant who’s pretty much just evil because she is.

I get this kind of thing. Most of the time when I try to write I mainly lean towards her working away from the latter. Due to losing everything she was working for in the things I’m working on, she just kinda exists and still has her anger, but she knows it’s not gonna do any good yet she holds on to it. But I understand what you mean.

@kapitantorrenton
I have, but I feel kind of unintentionally hampered myself in a few ways.
It’s not that I constantly get writer’s block or anything like that, but I just have a bunch of ideas and all for the stories, but I just have a hard time put it down on paper, or typing it out to be more accurate.
And honestly, I feel like most of the great and unique ideas have already been done and done far better than I could make them.
Like if I write a hero or king giving a great rousing speech before a grand cavalry charge, everyone will think “This was inspired be the Ride of the Rohirrim from LotR”, which was itself, inspired by the climax of the great Battle of Vienna back in 1683, where the Polish King Jan Sobieski led the largest cavalry charge in history, which was 20,000 cavalrymen, at the head of 5,000 of his Polish Winged Hussars.
Sorry, but I just like to mention such badasses from history when and if I get the chance and remember to.
And so what I came up with was a bit more of a series of fanfiction stories that was also a crossover ones. But while I wasn’t intending on trying to throw in every possible setting and the kitchen sink, I do think I tried to come up with a bunch of ideas before really putting them together be fore properly organizing them.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m not just giving up on it, but it’s just a little harder to just sit down and do it, especially with how quickly days can go by.

And please mods, don’t get mad at me or delete my comments, as I just kind of got into a creatively explanatory mood out of nowhere and I tend to ramble a bit when I get like that.

To try to be somewhat brief (again, sorry).
Sombra’s family had a large group of 6,000 elite bodyguards at their command called the Varangian Guard, which was entirely made up of wolves (think diamond dogs but a bit leaner and stand more upright), who were formed years before after they saved his father, mother, and a young Sombra from usurpers.
Sombra had 1,000 of them with him on his diplomatic mission.
Sombra’s followers called out for revenge against the Crystal Empire for sheltering the pony who had attacked their homeland and made them refugees. And in his rage, Sombra was more than willing to lead them to claim it.
Over the course of a few weeks, Sombra and what mages and such he had left set up an experiment to enhance their warriors with various kinds of magic, but they found that it was a rather harsh process, so they chose to solely focus on trying to enhance the remaining Varangian Guardsmen. All of whom eagerly volunteered.
(Think of a scene like when Steve Rodger gets turned into a super soldier in the Captain America movie, only far more numerous and with magic, and the end result is a sort of wolf death knight of sorts)
To the surprise of many involved, none of the wolves died.
Sombra dubbed became know as his Dark Varangians, and at their head, leading the rest of his followers, they smashed the larger army of the Crystal Empire and took control of the those lands, and surprisingly, Sombra wasn’t actually defeated when Celestia and Luna came to confront him years later, as a loyal follower of his insisted that he take his place.
And other things played out a bit differently than in cannon, but this is long enough as it is.
But the whole point is that I think I managed to make rather good changes to Sombra’s backstory to show that he started out as a good enough stallion, but was driven into being a far darker version of himself by the actions of others.

Sorry that this comment is so long too.
I’m just wanted to give an example of what I’m talking about, though it had to do with King Sombra.
I’m not trying to go off topic or boast any, but I had been working on some crossover fanfiction stories over the years, and I was going to have one fairly large story focus in the world of MLP and all.
Now, in some of the backstory and other expanded I came up with, I was going to give King Sombra a considerably different backstory which makes him a far more sympathetic character.
Now I won’t go and try to explain every bit of it to you, but he basically came from a kingdom far to the north, even further north than the Crystal Empire. I call it the Kingdom of the Steel Ponies, or just Steel Kingdom.
Back when Sombra was a young stallion and still just a prince, he was away on a diplomatic mission, a fairly powerful and arrogant crystal unicorn mage arrived in his homeland and claimed to be a diplomat from the Crystal Empire, but he was refused entrance to their lands, for when Sombra’s mother, Queen Samira (the name I gave her) could tell he was being deceitful and clearly had some sort of agenda for being there, so he was refused entrance to their lands.
When Sombra and his entourage finally arrived back at the borders of their homeland, they found that there was a massive storm cloud grey dome like barrier blocking their way and the snowfall seemed to be far more severe it normally was. And after spending a couple of weeks scouting the areas around the kingdom, Sombra and those with him found that there was no way to get through the barrier and only managed to find small handfuls of their people outside the barrier.
A few of those ones who told about how, with some help from some dark strangers, that deceitful crystal unicorn mage managed to set up and cast a powerful barrier spell around their lands, and that he had fled in the direction of the Crystal Empire.
Now, Sombra had sent a few followers, who were wolves, to the Crystal Empire as diplomats to call for the seizure and hand over of this criminal who attacked his people, only to have them return to him beaten and bloodied, which enraged Sombra that the crystal ponies would treat his followers so disrespectfully.
So he led his followers toward the Crystal Empire.

Sorry the comment is so long.
But I think how they handled Chrysalis was done very poorly.
I just think that it was completely they completely disregarded the whole “it’s my job to find food for my subjects” bit that could’ve actually made Queen Chrysalis a far more sympathetic character, instead of just being yet another fictional cruel tyrant.
I mean, I always kind of liked the fan theory that long ago the Changelings were some sort of “fairly ponies” or something and some evil power or villain (maybe even Grogar) might’ve changed them into the changelings for defying them or something like that.
I don’t mind the occasional villain who’s evil just because they like being mean to others and otherwise generally evil, because that can not only be funny at times, in the case of Jack Horner from Puss in Boots 2, but it can also be a nice possible juxtaposition for a far less evil character to see that they may be some good in them, as corny as that sounds.
I just think it’d have been objectively better storytelling if they had had Chrysalis be one of those sympathetic villains who will pretty much do anything for her people, even if that means hurting others.

@Scorpion
It makes her both compelling and oddly sympathetic. She’s spent so long regarding others as a food source that ideas like friendship and pacifism make no sense to her.
