Back in the THAC0 days we made a Grenadier variant of the Fighter class who lugged around (heavily padded) backpacks and satchels full of jars and gourds that had corks sealed with pitch.
“Who’s that burly guy with the backpack?”
“Oh, he casts fireballs.”
“…Doesn’t look like a mage.”
“He’s not.”
[Grenadier pulls out jar full of naphtha and lights the cork with a match]
