I would have preffered having the Maitlands as carryovers from the movie insteads of the Deetzes.  
It would have been too grim for a Saturday morning cartoon but it would have been amazing if there had been an episode of the series where Lydia met her deceased mother in the Neitherworld. (My headcanon was that her father Charles remarried because he was a widower)
