Cakes!
The desserts family has grown quite a bit in the past however many years it’s been. The twins have grown up, they have two younger siblings, and Pumpkin even has little twins of her own~
The middle stallion is a cannon character. I named him, and kinda gender-swapped him too. He’s one of the foals seen with Flurry Heart. He’s got two lashes in the show, like a filly, but Pound Cake did too for a little while. If you look back, he gets two lashes a bunch of times. So I’m going with babies can have lashes.
Mr. & Mrs. Cake are about the same as ever. They gained some fame for a while after serving Celestia on a few occasions, and actually opened another location of Sugarcube Corner, which was given to a family friend to run and operate. The expansion didn’t change the family much, but it did spark Mrs. Cake to start writing a recipe book. She put the time in after hours, transcribing her old recipes, which were scattered about on scraps of paper taped into a booklet for safekeeping. Pinkie helped a lot with the book, lending some of her own savory creations to the pages, and suggesting a bunch of decoration for the cover (most of which was ignored in favor of a simple, homey design). Soon enough, the 457 page Sweets, Treats, & Family Eats was on sale for bakers of all ages. The extra revenue from the book sales and the second store helped the family a lot as they grew in number as well.
With the twins growing up, the Cakes felt that there was still room for another few sweets in their lives, and decided to have another foal. While they looked back and laughed lovingly at the memories of raising their unicorn and pegasus twins, the parents really did hope to have something a bit calmer for the second time around. After all, Pound and Pumpkin were preteens and as chaotic as ever. There was a bit of a relief when they found out that they were having just one foal, and an earth pony at that. The expectant parents chose not to know the gender of their third child, wanting something about it to be a surprise. And so began the long arguments between Pound and Pumpkin over whether they’d have a younger brother or sister (Pumpkin wanted a sister, Pound a brother). Despite the sibling squabbles, the family was very close and the promise of a new arrival brought them even closer.
The extra cash allowed the family to make some additions to their home-shop, and since Pinkie moved out to start her own family and restaurant, they converted her old spaces into a nursery for the new foal. It ended up being a little colt, much to Pounds pleasure. He planned out everything to do with his little brother, how to teach him everything there was to know about being a strong and cool stallion. He may have taken the little foal out on a few adventures, much to his parents’ collective dismay. Pumpkin, despite wanting a baby sister, adored her new brother as well. She saw fit to spoil him while Pound tried to make him tuff, and the end result was the little guy, Cheesy, being an odd mix of his sister’s pampering and his brother’s peacocking. But it was all good.
The family chose to expand again when the twins were starting highschool age. Momma Cake was feeling lonely with her first two kiddos growing up and out of the house, even though they spent a lot of time at home anyway. When she revealed her pregnancy to the family, Pound Cake was less excited. He was a teen, strong and confident and waaaay over the whole “baby safe” home thing. He was a bad-boy (in his own mind). Pumpkin adored the idea, and maybe exaggerated it a bit to bug her brother. Cheesy was excited not to be the youngest. And so, the house underwent another round of babyproofing. For their fourth and final foal, the Cake chose to know the baby’s gender before birth, and were delighted to be having another filly. A perfect family balance: two girls, two boys. Pumpkin and Cheesy spent a lot of time trying to help for the new baby, Pumpkin being more helpful and Cheesy being more passionate than practical. Despite his stoic and aloof exterior, Pound lent a hoof for his new sister as well, although he tended to help out when nopony else was around. Couldn’t be caught acting all sappy.
When Angel Cake was born, the Cake family was finally complete. Carrot and Cupcake adored their youngest daughter, and while they still had all four kids at home, felt like they all fit together perfectly.
Since then, the family has remained very close, and while Pound and Pumpkin have both moved out of the house, they’ve stayed close and visited often throughout the week. Cupcake may have cried a bit when they left. She was glowing with pride though, loving how her twins had grown into young adults and hoping only the best for their futures. Carrot Cake took it upon himself to personally inspect the two’s new homes, just to make sure. He’s quite protective over his kids, especially Pumpkin, since Pound’s tried to squirm away from his dad’s protective gaze.
Cheese Cake is now a teen himself, and sports his father’s tall and lanky frame. He has a goofy smile and a dorky sense of humor. He especially loves cheesy jokes. For a while, Cheesy tried to be more like his big brother Pound, who’s become quite the suave lady-killer. He slicked his mane back, tried to lower his voice, wore a black jacket. It all failed. It all failed terribly. The poor little dork looked beyond ridiculous trying to be a cool bad-boy, and after watching his family suppress a few giggles, he gave the gig up and went back to making bad puns instead.
Cheesey has always been a daddys-boy, following Carrot around with bright eyes and a wide smile. He spent his childhood running around on too-long of legs, flailing like a newborn deer, as he tried to be of help to his parents. He’d run back and forth from the stock room, grabbing bags of flour and sugar.
His cutiemark is for decorations- specifically those little sugar decorations you can put on things, the ones that look like eyes and stuff. Once he found this out, he took a specific liking to cupcakes, more of his mom’s specialty. He makes specialty cupcakes for events and stuff at the bakery- little spiders and pumpkins for Nightmare night, snowmen for winter, beach scenes in summer, etc.
Angel Cake is the youngest of the Cake siblings. She hasn’t found her cutiemark yet, but she’s at the right age. She’s an absolute doll-baby, and wants nothing more than to make fun drawings and help mommy and daddy in the bakery. She’s very clueless and innocent, and by extension extremely gullible. She’s gotten into a few pickles by following the direction of school mates that she believed were very nice, and still thinks are nice, but in reality who just wanted to mess with her. She can’t see the bullying- everything’s always just an accident. Momma Cake worries about her little sweetheart, but the young filly remains as happy as ever.
Pumpkin Cake became a gardener. She supplies a bunch of fresh ingredients to her parent’s bakery, and has her own farmer’s market stall in town as well. She specializes in pumpkins, but grows all sorts of squash and a few fruits as well. She’s gotten into the gourd business lately, selling the decorative fruits mostly in the falls, and making a handful of gourd baskets or maracas. Pumpkin’s Patch is a farm not far from Ponyville, just off the outskirts of town so that she could have enough space for her gardens. She loves the sunlight and fresh air, listening to the birds, and taking walks around her farm before the sun rises. It was during one of these early morning walks that she met the stallion that would become her husband. Black Cherry was traveling, and he had meant to make it to town to sell his cherries at the market the next day. But his wagon had broken when it hit a pothole that he couldn’t see in the pre-morning darkness. So he was dragging the wheelless contraption through the dirt past Pumpkin’s farm. She had him come in for breakfast, and offered him one of her wagons to get his fruit to market. Pumpkin loved the pink stallion’s bubbly and quick-witted behavior, and bright eyes. They fell in love partillay that morning, and while she told him to keep the wagon, he ended up using it as an excuse to come back to see her. And then came by to give her some jam, as a thank you. And then stopped by to buy some gourds. And then she found out that he lived 4 cities away, meaning that the stallion was making these long trips purposefully, despite his casual “happened to be nearby” attitude. She confronted him about it, and he admitted to coming purposefully to see her. The pair continued to bond, and eventually, they married and decided to have foals. Despite being so young, Pumpkin felt like she was ready for this, since she had been foal-sitting for Pinkie since she was a teen. She ended up being pregnant with twins, and relied a lot on her mom throughout the pregnancy.
Black Cherry used to be a cherry farmer. It’s his family’s business, and while his talent is in jam making, he’s always been more of a flowy guy than a rooted one. So he was a traveling salespony, with his wagon full of cherries and cherry jam, letting him see the countryside.
He used to be a farmer, and now is a loving stay-at-home dad to his two wonderful little twins. He does still make some jams, since they do have grapes and cherries on the farm, but he doesn’t do it for sales anymore, and instead just makes it for the family, and as gifts for friends. Cherry is a bright and fun loving guy. He’s very energetic and positive, speaks in long run-on sentences, and adores games.
He’s not really much of a singer, but he loves to try and may have made a few embarrassing attempts to woo Pumpkin with song. He’s also a snuggler, loving to cuddle up with his wife and twins. While he loves Pumpkin’s morning walks because that’s how they first met, he’s often reluctant to let her leave bed in the early hours.
Cherry went ahead and spoke with Mr. and Mrs. Cake about marrying their daughter really early on in the relationship, surprising the older couple. Both Cherry and Pumpkin were very young, and they hadn’t imagined either of their twins marrying for at least another few years. Despite their worries, Cherry took it upon himself to do everything he could to win over the career bakers. He took a job with them, and worked as much as he could. Pound Cake wasn’t overly fond of him, but Cherry took his brotherly pestering and judgments in stride, eventually making the other stallion admit that, while he thought Cherry was a nerd, he saw how happy he and Pumpkin were. Cherry also tried to spend a lot of time with Angel and Cheesy, helping the younger foals with schoolwork and giving them life advise. Cheesy loved his new “brother,” mostly because the pair shared a sense of humor. Angel adores everypony.
After a long time of early mornings, late nights, days coated in flour, and hours spent smiling, Cherry won over Carrot Cake. Cupcake had taken a liking to him from the beginning, after seeing him with Pumpkin. Carrot was skeptical at first, since they were so young and he was worried about his daughter. But he did come around, and gave Cherry his blessing to get married.
Cherry planned the engagement in secret with Pound, Cheesy, and Angel. He wanted Mr. and Mrs. Cake to be as surprised as their daughter, but at the same time he wanted to make sure the whole family was involved.
He prosed on Hearths Warming Eve. He and Pound Cake had made a special batch of cupcakes, decorated to spell out “Will you marry me?”
He asked Cheesy to make a little sugar decoration that was shaped like a pair of cherries, but instead of two cherries connected with a stem, it was a cherry and a pumpkin. He placed his as the dot of the question mark. Angel’s job was to decorate the box and help Cherry come up with a little poem to use in the proposal. It read:
“The holidays are special
That anypony can see
A time for sharing love and light
A time for sweets and family
And in the brightest shining snow
There’s no place I’d rather be
The only way to make this better
Is if you would marry me”
Very Merry Berry Tart and Fuschella Fondant are the adorable little twin foals of Black Cherry and Pumpkin Cake. The two are still very young, but they’re the prides and joys of the Cake family. Their parents fawn over everything they do, and their grandparents do the same. Uncle Cheesy loves to make special cupcakes for his little niece and nephew. Aunt Angel makes drawings for the little babies. Uncle Pound Cake, having mostly grown out of his bad-boy phase, is planning to be the fun uncle. He may be plotting to buy illegal fireworks when they’re a little bit older.
Verry Merry Berry Tart was actually a name suggestion from Pinkie, who made a nice long list of name ideas when she found out that her first “daughter” was gonna be a mom. Pinkie feels very connected to the Cakes.
Fuschella Fondant was suggested by Mrs. Cake, thinking back to her maiden name Chiffon Swirl.
Fuschella is a pegasus, like her Uncle Pound Cake.
Pound Cake is the final member of the extended Cake family. He’s gone through quite a few jumps in personalities, from the sweet little foal, to a strongheaded and stubborn colt, a rebellious teen, the classic bad-boy, and now a suave and confident stallion. Pound Cake is quite the ladies-man in his own right, knowing that he’s a handsome stallion, and a smooth talker as well. He’s had a parade of mare-friends, but may not be the best with commitment. He has remained close to his family though. By trade, he’s a cake decorator, specializing in frostings and the flowery additions to wedding cakes and such. Instead of an apron, he has a baker’s jacket that he wears around and leaves partly open. He’s also got a bit of goatee stubble going on, like he dad used to. Pound Cake’s not a bad guy, he’s just got a decently large ego and a very bachelor-like personality. He’s good at what he does, and he loves being with other ponies, but he can get carried away in what he does. He’s a party guy, but will still show up for work with his hair gelled back and smile ready.
He’ll settle down eventually, but right now he’s riding high as a self-impotant, flashy young stallion.
