Wasn’t Applejack to be the villain-turned-protagonist in the G4 reboot version of G5? Putting her in Misty’s place is probably a reference to that.

I do wish she’s show up in G5. The finale they gave her just wasn’t satisfying. They did give her a cameo as the Witch of the East in their “Wizard of Odd” parody comic, but that’s hardly enough. Though if they do include her in G5, they have to get Kathleen Barr back. Her voice is the biggest reason why Chrysalis had the impact she did.
