Yeah, I always felt that, whatever the merits or lack thereof of the stories during his run, Colin Baker was doing the best he could with what he was given and was always interesting to watch because of that. Maybe I should try to find some of those audio stories…

@Trickquestion

On the topic of Colin Baker, you can’t really blame the man himself.

The show got fucked over just as he started his run, but if you want to see the Sixth Doctor shine, you should go check out the audio stories, like “Real Time”.

What I don’t seem to get about the fanbase is when Russel T Davies was showrunner, people were bashing him left ot right and outright hating the guy but as soon as he left people were like “Man remember the cool episodes he did?”

The Dr Who fanbase can be weird sometimes

are you sure you are thinking of the right actor there? smith is like a child on sugar. i mean just look at how he acts all arms like a jellyfish when he is trying to get a point across… he very rarely gets serious expecially when it is needed to be serious.
now tennant.. when he gets serious you see the Hamlet pour out of him as he controls the stage with his glare.
and then he smiles and you know it is time to run or die.

@Background Pony
Well, what you see as “orderly” and “in control” I find to be rather dull and unimaginative at times. Ten was manic, but he knew how to keep people entertained. I’m sure there are some who can agree with me on that.

As for the “extermination of the Dr Who fanbase”…The simple fact that you’re willing to engage me to this extent has lead me to believe that you seem to care just as much, if not more, about it than I do. So please, in the name of “peace and sanity”:

…And I will do the same, alright? We all have our favorite Doctors. This is just how I view the two.
Background Pony #928A
Tennant’s Dr was too active always hurry hurry hurry like a child in a sugar rush. Smith’s Dr is more Dr Who like, it’s more orderly and in control of a situation.
I have a growing suspicion that what the Valeyard did, in the name of peace and sanity, was the extermination of the Dr Who fanbase.

@D50
True, but that was a different time. The revived series is a lot more developed than its classic predecessor, and I feel the quality of its characters should reflect that. I admit, Ten wasn’t perfect, but at least he had everything together for the most part.

Eleven just doesn’t have that kind of magic to him. That’s just how I feel.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@DoktorMedick94
You’re just nitpicking. It’s not like he was paired with those things like other Doctors have been paired with, say, a goofy scarf, a recorder, a celery stalk, or judo.
DoktorMedick94

@Background Pony
I honestly don’t see how. Sure Tennant had an occasional passing gimmick during his tenure - 3D glasses, a nice suit…but those were usually episode specific, and normally served a purpose outside being purely for memes.

Did he have a bowtie, a fez, a Stetson, a flying motorcycle or any other kind of silly little trick they’ve decided to pair Smith with? No, because he didn’t need them. His versatile acting was more than enough.

To me, it feels like almost everything they’ve been doing with Smith’s Doctor was to make up for the fact that alone, his performance is only subpar.
DoktorMedick94

@Background Pony
“Second Rate”? He’s a professional theatre actor!

Smith really can’t live up to that. Seriously, they’ve had to compound his character with so many gimmicks and other actors just to make him look watchable. Tennant and Eccleston didn’t need any of that.
Background Pony #928A
@DoktorMedick94
That’s odd, to me, Tennant was a second-rate Doctor, and Smith is really proving a first rate. The Dr doesn’t have to be a living dynamo. Some of the writing could use propping up. The surprizes are great, just too mandatory- that there must be a surprize.
DoktorMedick94

@ClownDicks
Oh the usual; confusing stories that offer little to no explanation, too many loose ends, the characters he designs get a little dull after a while and there’s no cohesion what so ever.

It also feels like they don’t have the right lead actor to support the show, anymore. Don’t get me wrong, Matt Smith has come a long way, but to me he’s still a poor replacement for David Tennant.

@kryxel
Yeah, I haven’t been terribly fond of how companions tend to be SUPER important to like… the universe on a whole. I’m excited to see what they do with Hurt, though. Not as excited that we have to wait until November to find out.
The Floor Kippers

@Background Pony
Given that the “Real 9th doctor” stuff was published in The Sun, a Newspaper that has always been so far off the actual plot of any episode they’ve published spoilers about they may as well have a publishing base on Skaro, I’m not giving it much credence.
Background Pony #3909
@The Floor Kippers
Yeah, the Valeyard is known for putting the 6th Doctor on trial. He is then later found out to be The Doctor just a later regeneration of himself. Many people are speculating that John Hurt is this Dark Doctor. There’s also speculation he is also the True 9th Doctor who fought in the time wars.
