Also, the death toll/% wasn’t really that high for such a famous disaster. As with most of the other low-altitude hydrogen balloon disasters, the cabin was mostly safe from what was really a rapid fire and slowly descended as the balloon expended its gas. Out of all the people you can see in the photo standing directly under the airship, only one was killed. Most of the survivors simply walked away after the cabin had fallen.
