There’s always Mega Evolution or Terastylization.
Also I was thinking having Spike Charmander’s character having the spirit of a dragon rather than literally being a dragon type. He can seen as an “honorary dragon” when he gets stronger and faces other dragon types.
I don’t have the whole thing planned out, just ideas. Sorry about all that.

The reason the Charmander is purple (Who is Spike if it wasn’t obvious) is because Twilight had to use magic to hatch Spike’s egg to enter Celestia’s Pokemon School just like in the show and like in the show she lost control of herself when using magic so when she hatched the egg, the rampant magic caused the Charmander to look purple instead of orange.
There maybe more that affected Spike like a special power/ability only to him but I’m still figuring that out. So yeah, that’s why the Charmander is purple.
