The Sunspot lurched as something shot past it, slamming me against the engine room wall.
“Shit, we’re being attacked! Get your wings on and get ready to bail out!” Honeydew, the first engineer, was already opening the emergency hatch. I didn’t need her to tell me twice. Grabbing the wing pack in my telekinesis, I ran to the hatch. Honeydew was already dropping away below, her wings spread wide as her forehooves reached out to catch the falling form of another pony.
“WINDIGOES!” came a shout from somewhere toward the bow.
I blinked, stumbling. Windigoes? Those things from the Hearth’s Warming Eve stories? Aren’t they… The thought was interrupted as something impacted with the envelope. The airship bucked, dropping the open hatch away below me, then jerked suddenly upward. I slammed hard against the hatch’s frame, spinning me end over end as I was flung from the airship. My telekinetic field imploded with a flash of magical discharge as the wing pack was slammed against the hatch, ripping the wings from its body as it fell past me.
I managed to look up at the Sunspot as a ghostly white form, wreathed in lightning, erupted from the side of the envelope. I could faintly see the rest of the crew scrambling to abandon ship, the pegasus crewmembers grabbing unicorns and earth ponies as they tried to get as far from the foundering ship as possible.
My head spun. Was I dreaming again…? This all felt so familiar… The sound of the wind faded from my ears as I fell away from the airship. I closed my eyes. Xhat Ihed…? Are you here? There was no response. Is this where I was meant to be…? I felt a sob welling up inside me as I gathered enough of my wits to realize that this was no dream, and no savior was coming for me. This was going to be my end, lost in the frozen wastes beyond civilization, regardless of what the enigmatic Dreamwalker had told me.
Fate, don’t fail me now…
