It’s not as bad as it used to be.
Perhaps too popular in some… Some Sally fans like to bash the games and newer IDW comic canon for not having Sally in them.
Well, the dialogie was written by Ian Flynn, (who is a Sonic geek like us) so maybe he just put that in as a nod to her.
Really? How? I thought “Sonic Boom” was a different universe/canon?
Sticks gets name dropped in Frontiers, actually.
I think it’s because most kids wouldn’t be familiar with the Freedom Fighters, the Sega game developers themselves aren’t very familar with them, and on top of that Sega’s faced backlash for how big the game cast is alteady, so suddenly adding 5 or 6 SatA.M. characters would add to that.
Writer Ian Flynn said it might be possible, but probably not at the moment.
I did hear a rumor Sega only wants the more modern game characters in it for now, I hear they won’t even let Mighty & Ray in it. (Despitethem being revived in “Sonic Mania.”) Though, considering Sega forbid Archie to use Cream, & Omega for years, but then relented, and allowed them in, maybe they’ll allow the old characters later.
amy had a cousin? also I never played sonic forces but I did play sonic hearos and I thought they where taking influence from that. also its still just starting out who knows they might include sally and the freedom fighters later on or at the very least they might make a ref to them
They redesigned the SatA.M./comic characters, after doing a semi-reboot of the comic series, (after some legal disputes with former writer Ken Penders, and such so they had to remove his characters, like all the echidnas, the parents, Amy’s cousin, the skunk guy, ect.) so they had to give Sally clothes to make her fit in with other female Sonic characters more. Fans were mixed on that.
Though, sadly, the Archie Sonic series was cancelled by it’s 290th issue, (very impressive, as game companies normally pull the plug on licensed comics after just a few issues) but Sega gave license to IDW to do a new series, and it’s been doing well for a year now.
Though, some fans are upset the new IDW series doesn’t have Sally, the Freedom Fighters, or anything from the old Archie series. The IDW canon basically just takes place after the “Sonic Forces” game, but it has some of it’s own new characters, and new storylines regardless.
Edited
oh yeah they put pants on her, that was weird. was it relevant to the story that they put pants on her like how she got her vest or did they just put pants on her for no reason? I haven’t read the comic in years so my knowledge is spotty
Nothing, the artist is just a huge Princess Sally Acorn fan. …Or at least, before she started wearing pants in the comics.
(Yes, another “change is bad” fan.)
This tugs at my heartstrings because I am a Sonic fan and a pegasister (or Girl MLP fan) and Derpy is one of my favourite MLP characters… I feel so sorry for them both right now… crying
(I’m a guest but I like to be referred to as CCS Sophie)
Yeah, Wayforward’s games are pretty cool, (Got “Mighty Switch Force 2” recently) so I am curious how they would handle a Sonic title.
I hope they get to remake more Disney Capcom games.
Yeah, I think they made his official name “King Bowser Koopa,” to work it all out. He even called himself “Bowser Koopa” once in the SMB3 cartoon.
He also called himself “King Koopa” in the intro scene of the “Adventure mode” of “Mario & Sonic at the London Olympics” game. That’s the first time I saw him called “King Koopa” in a loooong time.
Would be nice, but sense SatA.M. is so old, (and a bit different) I think it’s kinda to late for that.
Though the Archie comic series is still going, and still has the SatA.M. characters (even ones like Lupe & Naugus) and some of the SatA.M. elements/events in it, so it’s kinda keeping SatA.M. alive still. (But of course, the comics are a different canon, and adapted some characters/events from the games to.) Surprised it never got a game adaption either.
The game adaption for the upcoming “Sonic Boom” show, I hear is going to be like a “prequel/intro” to the show.
Also I really wish they’d do some games based on the SatAM canon one day.
Actually, in interviews, like the one for “Sonic Adventure 2 HD,” they stated they merged both his Japanese, and American names together to avoid confusing fans, so his official name is “Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik.” Apparently, “Eggman” is an alias/nickname. Whether this is “still” canon is up for debate though.
The first name “Julian” (Julian Ivo Robotnik) is only canon in the old SatA.M. show, and comics though.
Indeed, I’m a SatA.M. fan, but alot of ‘em are getting quite fanatical on DA. (No offense to anyone.)
I saw one somewhere on DA say I wasn’t a “true SatA.M. fan,” just because I like the Sonic comics… (Alot of SatA.M. fans on DA hate the comics, which is ironic, ‘cause it’s the only thing keeping the SatA.M. characters alive still.)
If being a “True SatA.M. Sonic fan” means I can’t enjoy any other version/canon of Sonic (like the games, or comics) then I don’t want to be a “true fan.” I’ll just be a more open-minded one.
I like both names “Robotnik” and “Eggman,” but I do get tired of fans who always fight over which one is better, or get on fans’ cases if they prefer one name over the other. (For that matter i also like calling Bowser “King Koopa” his old name sometimes, as well as Derpy “Ditzy” as well. Though I have nothing against their more popular names.)
@Prof.NightJack
You have a point there are no “true fans.”
@Psycho333
It’s not just SatA.M. fans, but also Sonic fans who prefer the old Genesis games, and/or the “Americanized” Sonic canon. (Like how the manuals called Sonic’s home planet “Mobius” and such.)
@Psycho333
Actually, they weren’t being “morons,” from what I understand, they changed his name to “Robotnik,” (which is also a nice name as it sounds like what a mad scientist who makes robots would be called to me) because they thought “Eggman” was trademarked in America.
Also, officially, the Japanese developers did regard/accept “Robotnik” as Eggman’s family name with his grandfather Professor Gerald having the last name “Robotnik.” (Even in the Japanese version.)
By that logic, Nintendo of America are “morons” for renaming the Mario villain “Bowser,” instead of using his Japanese name “King Koopa.” (Which was sometimes used in the old Mario merch’, and cartoons/comics.)
Actully, with Sega of Japan officially his real name unknown, so both Eggman and Robotnik are just as canonical.
And, if anything, it’s irrelevant now. Eggman’s name was ret-coned to actually be Robotnik but he just used Eggman because it everyone calls him anyhow.
And the behind the localization are not morons for changing his name, that was done a lot back then, it was the stranded so to think they are morons when it was the most common thing to do in any localization is to show you are just as much a moron as they are.
Doesn’t mean they aren’t real fans, and just being a SatAM fan doesn’t mean they only refere to him as Robotnik, I know his name in Japan was always Eggman and I am an SatAM fan.
