“Maybe they wanted to spare me from getting anymore more hate mail and people calling me offensive names. It may have been only 10 emails, but each one made me feel absolutely horrible If the effect on me was part of their motivation for the change, I think that’s really amazing, incredibly sensitive, and very commendable.”
About 10 people from tumblr wrote hate e-mails to Amy Keating to force Hasbro to take action. That’s it. Derpy was never offensive. The people who attacked here were assholes.
Apparently you need a reminder about the whole thing (I hate to discuss it but, hey, it’s been a while). Amy later expressed some regret over her decision, and she was also just one of the voices on the whole decision. So asking that she leaves is kinda cruel to her and pointless, even if she was silly to rely on random internet information. (But in all fairness, it’s difficult to keep up with teen slang.)
The truly tragic thing was that if they used Ditzy, people’d have accepted it. No-one honestly expected them to use the fan name back then. So in the end, it was their own good intentions that doomed them.
I still say that one week of utter euphoria was kinda worth it, despite all the sh*t that followed and lasts ever since, though. :p
It’s the principle of the matter, or rather, the LACK of principle on the other side. They claim the reason it was improper is because it was an insult, AND THEN THEY PUSH THE NAME THAT IS UNIVERSALLY KNOWN AS AN INSULT AND HAS BEEN FOR THE PAST THIRTY-ODD YEARS IN TELEVISION sothe hypocrisy is just astounding.
Actually, I think he’s saying he’d be offended if they called her “Ditzy-Doo.”
Honestly, I think people who bashed that name, (and insist “It’s Derpy, or nothing!”) are no better then those who complained about the name “Derpy.”
Though, I suppose one good thing about the censoring of the name in the show is it does allow fans to call her by whichever name they prefer.
They should call her John Sparkle Twilight Sparkle’s brother.
Why would YOU be offended if they use Derpy?
@Background Pony
Yeah, I understand fans’ passion for the name/character, but some are getting a li’l to fanatical over the name “Derpy.” Sometimes I like to call her “Ditzy-Doo,” (I call her by both names) and some people actually get bent about that.
I guess we should just be happy they brought her back at the end of S3.
You do realize Writers of the show don’t have that much over the entire MLP franchise.
Case in point.
As for leaving her unnamed or as “Best Pony” in merchandise, I can live with that, considering that they’ll never use Derpy and any other name will cause an explosion of hatred in the brony community.
Hopefully she one day leaves the show so someone more reasonable can be brought in. Anyone who googled it at any time before the explosion would have seen that was absolute bullshit only whipped up by the SJWs with apparently too little REAL issues to fight for, or, more accurately, that they were afraid to fight for because this would personally inconvenience them and actually pose some risk to their entitled livelihood. Why gasp they may even have had to leave the safety of their own bubble worlds to attend rallies, town meetings, and unlearn their disgusting misanthropy.
Yeah, what some fans don’t realize is, they aren’t allowed to call her “Derpy” anymore, sense according to Amy Keaton Rogers some definitions of it online say it means “retarded,” hence the whole “Derpygate” s***storm, and editing of the “Last Round-up” episode. (She also stated to be fair the character was going to be called “Ditzy-Doo” originally. I’m sure some fans would’ve complained about that to, if they kept that name going, “Wah! She’s not Derpy! Dai Hasbro! Wah wah wah!”)
Honestly after seeing merch’ and those collectable cards refering to her as “that pony,” “this pony,” and such, I kinda roll my eyes, and think, “Just call her ‘Ditzy’, or ‘Frank’, I don’t care!” It just looks weird (and kinda hilarious) they go out of their way to not name her now.
@Crowley
I know using that name (the ACTUAL INSULT name) would offend me enough to file a change petititon on it and send it to Hasbro over and over until they went back to nothing or (more acceptably) restored Derpy. And eff all who would think otherwise!
Pretty much, though, I don’t think they copyrighted “Derpy” personally.
I kinda prefered “Ditzy-Doo,” but I was never offended/bothered by calling her “Derpy.” I use both names personally.
I think they copyrighted Derpy, but since Derpygate they’re not allowed to call her that. And they fear changing her to Ditzy will offend the pro-Derpy crowd.
So are they still not allowed to call her Derpy nor Ditzy?
