It seems that as a filly, Misty somehow accidentally activated the teleporting power of the together tree known as Bridlewood’s Wishing Tree, and since the only other together tree known to exist back then was the one growing out of Opaline’s castle, that might explain how she ended up living under Opaline for the next several years. Especially worth noting is that no one, not even Opaline, seemed to be aware of this teleporting power back then, so even if Opaline had wanted to, she did not know of any way she could help the young Misty return home.
