To add onto why that happens. Taste, like any other sense, pairs with emotions. Especially when the taste is new, so the brain latches onto everything when it's a very great taste. Repeated tastes that are good with a similar but lower reaction will also do this. Thus typically childhood memories will make that specific taste nostalgic. This last one doesn't need to involve childhood but it's much more likely, especially with taste.
Edit 2: this type of memory can thus bring back foggier parts of that memory such as audio and visual. Both of those senses are more likely to be overwhelmed for perfect recall.
