Holy Calling (Intermission)
I, Brilliant Purity, have fought many a criminal in my Goddess’ name. Mostly I patrolled the roads that vagabonds and ne’er-do-wells used. It was honest work and it was one that I was suited for. Despite my kind being more skilled with spells and sorcery, I followed the path of physical training and honest sweat. Years were spent making the roads safe until one day I encountered a unicorn of such divine power I mistakenly though that she was an avatar of the Sun Goddess.
The Unicorn went by the unfortunate name of Gutter Grime, her splotchy grey fur and disheveled appearance disguised a pure soul only concerned with purifying lands. She was not a worshipper of the Sun Goddess, however her actions against the cruel and perverse warlocks made her noble in my eyes. She put me on the path of the Clerical Arts, I learned of the greater threats of ponykind than simple criminals. Cults, Demons, Monsters beyond mortal knowledge, all hidden in temples older than many civilizations.
We gathered a team, Gutter Grime, myself, Silent Prance, and Queen Mandible. We tore through the cultist like a noble sword slicing rotting rope. Success made us bold and the fame made us careless. I admit my own folly at believing that we could take on the infernal. What cleric doesn’t dream of doing their calling?
We faced a demon. The cult we tracked down had been smarter than we anticipated, they finished their occult ritual and used an entire hive of Changelings as sacrifice. We didn’t stand a chance, Queen Mandible was the strongest of us. Comparable to an Alicorn, she was broken into a pile of still living Chitin. Gutter Grime attempted to Exorcise the demon and her body was turned into a cylinder, I would later learn that object was known as a… aid for sexual release. Silent Prance managed to used his tools to spirit us to a safer part of the dungeon. He was scared and he was no fighter.
“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you.” Those were my last words to him as I activated my own enchanted ring. He vanished in a sparkle of light and would reappear at my church safe from this threat.
I would like to say I turned and faced the demon bravely. I am not as strong either of my already fallen companions. The demon was on me in second and all I could do was scream as I was reshaped into a cursed form. I expected to die, I HOPED to die. Yet… My soul was taken and sealed. My memories are fuzzy between my transformation and my purchase at that shop. I can’t feel my Goddess presence and I’m scared.
