There's a bit more to it than that.
A streamer got his tens of thousands of viewers to kill off the MLP spot. The MLP alliance mostly decided to bide our time, because we couldn't take on that many users. And our allies (Genshin, which was right below, and Bluey, which was to our left) had a few smaller attacks we could help with.
During that time the streamer tried to make it look like Bluey and Genshin had betrayed us by extending their backgrounds into his space. Neither community seemed thrilled, but we also knew we couldn't stop him, so again we waited for the streamers to get bored.
Then Reddit's twitter promoted the above ([source](https://twitter.com/Reddit/status/1682855591209738240)):
There's a decent chance this was just someone on Reddit's PR team not doing their research. But it's still not a great look to be promoting streamers over Reddit's own communities.
At this point we've given up on that spot. The overlay we used to coordinate taking it back has been deleted, and we've run off to some uncontested territory. Though it didn't stay uncontested for long...
