Everypony in Ponyville disappears in one night, so the guards are investigating on the left the next day.

However, they find a journal by Twilight that explains that Ponyville is trapped within the town, within their own houses, in eternal darkness. Despite everyone disappearing in a night, the journal covers several days. There is something there.

I don’t think both the left and right are happening at the same time, but the fic does have some intentional time inconsistencies, like the victims are trapped in the same town, yet in different points of time in the same neverending night.
