Ok, you got me mate, I’m actually an eldrich outequestrian demon who feeds on people’s anger in treads about MLP. It was me who made Twilight an alicorn, it was me who fired Faust, it was me who created Pony Life, MUAHAHAHHAHA!
And so? You’re arguing that people are using word villain incorrectly. But look at it’s meaning:
Villain - (in a film, novel, or play) a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot.
Opaline have evil actions? Yes. They are important to the plot? Yes! So…?

My point is that I am confused, I am confused about a lot of things, like why they call some characters villains when that is a specific term for particular people. An even more significant question is, if you disagreed with me, then why did you bother responding? Just for the sake of playing devil’s advocate?
Boredom? Is it something you could actively dump on while acting apathetic about it? I have seen too many of you types to know a troll when I see one. You’re not interested in a meaningful discussion; you’re just looking to cause trouble and anger people.

Because everyone seems to be calling her a villain. Just like everyone calls Death a villain. Mario is more of a villain than any of them put together, and he’s heralded as the hero of the mushroom kingdom.

Then don’t be a villain; that’s like calling Death a villain when he’s not and never was, to begin with. Opaline is not a villain; she’s more of an antagonist, the same as Death from Puss N Boots. It’s Death’s job to be scary. Death is Death, simply put.

Ok, Opaline is not effective at being evil. All villains need to be? Then all villains should be like Thamiel from Unsong or something, literall evil-maximasers. But it’s not the right way, right? Because we don’t need every villain to be this big effective threat. Opaline is her own character - clumsy egocentric old mare, who doesn’t understand why no one fears her anymore. It’s fun to watch and she has some uniqueness. Why this is bad? Because she’s not like some guy who got hyped up only because audiences were sick of sympathetic villains? Hello, we got to the point where Jack could receive attention (because really, he’s not that good of an antagonist outside of the movie and meta-narrative of the time) because people we’re trying to make all villains symphathic because it’s worked somewhere else. Literally the same thing you’re trying to do with this “I love villain X so if Opaline is not like X she’s bad villain”. Dude, different stories have different antagonists needed, and no one cares what YOU “see in modern media”. Show doesn’t need to be like other show’s, avoiding this was literally the reason why MLP became popular in the first place!

I mean, compare someone like Jack Horner to Opaline. Who do you think does a better job of being evil? Honestly, there’s no contest. One acknowledges that he is ruthless and relishes that epiphany. The other is more akin to that of a coddled and spoiled brat who throws a temper tantrum from being rejected by her sisters.
Correction: their beginnings were essentially the same, but one showed that he was much more capable of wickedness than the other. As for Opiline’s case, I don’t know why Hasbro designed her. Is she a filler “villain” or something?
And I wasn’t “setting standards” for villains because this would imply that I had expectations to begin with. I kinda already knew that G5 was going to be bad. I was listing what I typically see from most villains in modern media.

Dude, nothing rude, but I, like, not interested in “what you think”. It’s ok to not like the villain, but trying to make up some standards for them is nonsense.

To have variety is one thing, but to suck at being evil, why are you even a villain?
Chairman Drek is a good example of a great villain from the original Ratchet and Clank 1. Cruel, greedy, manipulative, cunning, and absolutely hilarious to listen to. He also managed to hold Captain Quark, who was meant to be the galaxy’s only known savior at blackmail. Granted, because it’s Quark, that’s not difficult to do, but you get my point.
Then there’s Opaline, who doesn’t at all make me think of someone evil. Angel Bunny could do a better job, and he’s technically not even a villain at all.

Goddamn, she even sounds cringy, too; I wish I had never heard her voice. Instead of sounding evil and intimidating like a villain should, she sounds like a bratty and spoiled woman who was never told no.
A villain’s voice is supposed to make your skin crawl with trepidation, and she definitely made my skin crawl, but for different reasons.
