I’d have to break out some books but yes, in the PEP you get pumped so full of Positive Energy you asplode like a video game boss, with the threshold being double your maximum HP as cited below. IIRC outside of some related positive energy shenanigans I’m really vague on, in any other circumstance you just lose whatever THP goes over the threshold unless relevant text states otherwise.

It’s temporary HP equal to max HP (in 3.x, at least), and one of my favorite bits of ‘kit’ for exploring there is basically a motorized knife in a chunky armband that repeatedly stabs you in the arm to keep your health at a safe level.
You also literally explode into sparkles and a lightshow, no gore.
