Optimism is thinking that things can get better. Pessimism is thinking that things can’t get better. Realism is just being realistic, which ironically is also optimism more often than not due to how human history is full of the world getting better.

Pretty much. Optimism is the act of insisting all is fine even as the house burns down around you.
Pessimism is the act of understanding the world is terrible, and will get worse if unattended.
Realism is an optimist that hasn’t finished transitioning from delusion to understanding but is at least headed in the right direction.
