They are long lost apple family members.

Lore:
In apirations to agrandize farm productivity, they ventured abroad in search of a Macguffin that would satisfy all there wants and family needs. Along the way came Apple bloom (an incidental of said needs.)

They return to the farm for a period until venturing out once more….that’s when tragedy struck.
