@sigh
Pretty much that. Its a very useful type offensively, yes. Defensively, not as much so, and the variety is extremely limited. Keep in mind, this is mostly me speaking as someone who gave up handheld consoles after the GBA, so I don’t have much experience with the second physical/special split, though since you pointed it out, yeah, physical fire type move selection is even MORE abysmal.
Methinks he means that the variety isn’t there with Fire like it is with the others. Typing is one thing, but if there’s little to no variety across the board to give the Mons, then what’s the point?
I’m only talking about Flareon, since Fire in general, while underrepresented, is still highly useful, being super-effective against 4 types, including a crucial effectiveness against Steel types. I don’t know what you’re talking about, Fire Blast and Overheat are great: the former for doing more damage than Flamethrower for a negliable accuracy drop, and the latter for quickly OHKOing the opposition.
Now, Flareon? I’ll be blunt, it would still suck even if Trollfreak gave it a new physical Fire move. It’s not only a glass cannon that dies when a gentle freeze knocks it over, it’s also very slow. All the good attacks and support moves don’t really matter when the Pokemon is slow AND defensively weak.
Well, to be fair
Fire is absurdly under-represented in the games in general considering its such a primary element. When you compare it to stuff like grass, fighting, or especially water (TOO MANY WATER MONS) its pretty bad, down there with stuff like Ghost. Same goes for its offensive movepool. Lots of piddly attacks like flame wheel and ember, a couple high power, low accuracy, low PP moves like overheat and fire blast. If it doesn’t learn Flamethrower, its gimped.
