So, from what I’ve seen, the general consensus seems to be, “Good fanfic, terrible cover.”

So… This would mean… Go To G3 and G3.5 MLP Times and meet them.

The thing is.. the only games wherein Sonic was very.. UN-Sonic-like, such as flirting with a human princess, and being non-egotistical and non-snarky.. were all during what’s effectively the Jason Griffith era. Which, mind you, was hardly all that great an era to begin with, being part of the biggest low in the games’ history.

Ok, sorry about that. It’s just Sonic-purists always hassle me about the comics everytime I say I like them, and I’m kinda tired ofg it.  
The only thing I’ll say is this… The Sonic characters DON’T have consistent personalities in the games either. In some old games Sonic’s a silent protagonist with slight hints of a “cool ‘90s attitude.” (Like the finger-waving on the title screen.) Some games he’s snarky/jokular. Some games/cartoons he’s egotistical. Some games/cartoons he’s not any of those things. One game he flirts with some human princess.  
Some games he’s just a gaming avatar with only a hint of personality.  
Same goes for other characters. Like it was kinda O.O.C. of Knuckles to be hanging around Sonic & Tails for no reason during the intro cinama scene of “Sonic Heroes,” instead of guarding his Master Emerald like he’s supposed to be doing, I felt. (But I still enjoyed that game. It’s not like Sonic games have to make sense.)
 
So to want the characterizations 100% to the games would be impossible with the inconsistencies in the game series. Also I think Sonic & other characters’ personalities in the comics/cartoons are faithful to the games, while also not having to emulate them 100%. And I see nothing wrong with even the game characters showing anger/sadness sometimes in the comic personally. It’d be weird to have them be all “happy/cool” all the time. Even in the games they aren’t always like that.
 
But overall I don’t really wanna debate “Sonic” anymore. Sorry.

At no point did I tell you you couldn’t like ‘em. I just voiced what I didn’t like about ‘em, and why I don’t acknowledge ‘em. For that matter, I don’t acknowledge any of the cartoons like Sonic X either. If at some point they ever bother to make something faithful to the games and the characterizations there, then I might acknowledge that - but that’s probably never gonna happen.
 
Also, I could of been writing miserably bad fanfiction with my self-insert fancharacter for longer than most Sonic characters have been around - it doesn’t make that character suddenly more valid, or less of an irritance. Just sayin’.

I don’t know, Sally’s actually been around longer then most of the Sonic video game characters, so she doesn’t seem that “fan-character-like” to me.  
Plus, honestly I get tired of people throwing that lame “this character is a Mary-Su” excuse. People even try to say Twlight Sparkle is a “Mary-Su” for one reason, or another. People throw that term around so much, it’s lost all meaning on me.
 
The comics are a different canon then the games, they don’t need to emulate them 100%. Plus I don’t see you complaining about the “SonAmy” ‘ship teases in the “Sonic X” anime. If you’re going to criticize the comics, you might as well criticize the cartoon/anime versions of Sonic, as well. Sonic’s lost his “cool” in those to.
 
Actually, some descriptions of Sonic’s personality in game manuals do say he can be “hot-tempered” at times, and he has “lost his cool” like when he fought Knuckles in “Sonic Adventure,” yelled at Shadow for framing him, and such.  
For the most part, I think the Archie comic version of Sonic is pretty laid-back, and kind-hearted compared to other versions of him I’ve seen.  
…You should see the British “Sonic the Comic” version, he is WAY more hot-headed, and verbally abusive to his friends and even calls Tails & Amy “stupid.” (No offense if anyone likes the STC Fleetway comic series.)  
The Archie Sonic comic version is nowhere near that hot-tempered, and mean if you ask me.
 
Also, those events you’re complaining about are like 8 years ago, and the current writer Ian Flynn fixed alot of problems the comic had, like getting rid of Tails’ angst, tying up alot of loose ends that previous writers ignored, and making some things more accurate to the game canon, like making it so there’s only 7 chaos emeralds in the comic, instead of 100s scattered across the world. (Which also helps make them less of a “deus ex machina.”)
 
From the way you talk though, it sounds like your dead-set against anything “serious” happening in the comic, but personally I think the comic has enough humorous/silly moments to balance out the “drama.”
 
So honestly, while I don’t love every issue of the Sonic comic series, (I used to dislike it to, I admit) I think they’ve gotten quite good in recent years, (regardless of past happenings) they don’t seem “overly-dramatic/fan-fiction-y” to me anymore, and I enjoy them.  
That’s just my opinion. Alot of comics lasting 20 years have a few bad issues/stories. Doesn’t mean the whole series is “tainted.”
 
If you don’t like ‘em, that’s your opinion, and I respect that. However, let ME enjoy them if I like them.  
…I get lectured by Sonic fans on DeviantArt so much about why the Sonic comics “suck,” that I’m honestly burned-out on debating them, and I’m tired of it honestly.  
So don’t expect anymore responses from me about the subject.

The entire Sally ‘romance’ was pretty much fan-character Mary-Sue shipping. Not to mention the seven different flavors of bastardization of character personalities, ranging from Emo-Tantrum Tails, Sonic getting married-and-then-not, then getting bitchslapped by Sally and subsequently throwing the largest hissy-fit of all time right after said bitchslap (which flies entirely in the face of everything about the character’s personality as someone who doesn’t lose his cool and is able to keep a level head even in the most intense of situations, where all hope would be lost).
 
You can call it ‘development’ if you like, but all I see is the same old ‘forcibly change the character’s personality to suit my super-serious drama story’ writing methods you see in bad fanfiction all the time.

I disagree, in fact, I find that comment ironic, ‘cause in recent years there’s rarely been any ‘shipping in the comic. Plus, Sega has a mandate on the series that Sonic can’t have a permanent relationship in the comic. (Understandable, with all the crazy Sonic ‘shipper fans. They’d go nuts, if Sonic was with the gal they didn’t prefer. Be it Amy, Sally, or Big the cat.)
 
I’m not a fan of ‘shipping, but the brief romance bits in the official comic don’t bother me honestly. In fact, I have to admit that issue (from several years back) where Antoine & Bunnie got married was kinda cute.

It’s because alot of people on this site hate Sonic for some reason. I admit, not every Sonic game is “gold,” (I hated “Sonic & the Secret Rings” personally) but I don’t get why so many people say every game after “Sonic 3 & Knuckles” is “bad.” (Including the sidescrollers.)  
Even the people who write the “Game Informer” magazine, or IGN have that mentality.
 
I remember I saw a guy who was bashing Sonic 4:Ep.1 (before it even came out) for how “3D” it looked, and for using the “modern Sonic” in it, yet this same guy LOVED “New Super Mario Bros. Wii,” even though it looked 3D-ish (used 3D characters instead of sprites) and he didn’t mind Mario having his “modern look” to.
 
Why do people have such odd double-standards with Sonic?

Yeah, I agree. I take crap from so-called “Sonic fans” on DeviantArt, just because I like the Sonic comic book series. (Which some Sonic fans consider “blasphemey to Sonic,” because it’s not 100% like the games, or their crappy ’shipper fanfics.)

What’s with all the downvotes? People seem to be fine with other game cover parodies.

They use the modern design instead of the classic one, so it’s going to suck! All the other characters are coming back so it’s going to suck! They’re making the games for children so it’s too easy! Baaawwww!
 
Actually, I see a lot of similarities between our fandoms. The Sonic fandom appears to have more of these people though…

The physics aren’t like Sonic 1, so this game is bad! Robotnik is called “Eggman” now! Twilight is now a Mary-Su! Alicorns are overpowered! So much pandering! Whyyyyyyy?! Waaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!
