I became convinced he was just a low-grade troll after his “Everything I like about G5” video, which was full of backhanded compliments, him barely holding back insults towards G5, and just a general air of him not taking it seriously. Telling YouTube to never recommend me any videos from him was definitely one of the best decisions I’ve made on that platform.

The guy was trying to tell Hasbro ‘how to fix’ G5 and he was complaining about most things that he didn’t like in the series which makes him an duck.

Also the guy’s just wasting his time complaining about G5 anyway. Hasbro never reads fan complaints or watches the YouTube videos and then fix the series because of those complaints and YouTube videos so the guy’s only wasting his time.

The only things Hasbro will fix in G5 will be the early 3D animation errors and that’s it. They won’t be fixing anything else in G5 besides that.

Every time a franchise makes a change, there’s going to be a segment that is livid about it. If the segment is large, the creators better listen. If the segment is small but LOUD, not so much.

This strikes me as a small but loud segment.

To the G4 fans who are reading this comment, if you guys don’t like G5 then go back to the G4 fanbase and stay there. It’s that simple.

Eh, this is just “same shit, different day” as always with this fandom. There’s been drama since season 2 - there was a minor drama over Luna’s changed appearance and seeming personality in Luna Eclipsed (though it was so minor, I had forgotten about it until a BP brought it up on an archived image of a tweet advertising the beginning of season 3 from The Hub).

But then going forward, there was the drama over Cadance being an Alicorn (the Faust fanatics especially since she stated that in her original draft, Cadance was a unicorn, I believe).

There was drama over Twilicorn - I’m fairly certain that that was the biggest drama of all, especially since it was followed immediately by the Equestria Girls drama.

There was drama over Twilight’s castle, over Starlight (which I’m pretty certain was due to people not understanding that her reformation took place over the whole of season 6 - the season 5 finale was just her opening herself to that).

There was the Flurry Heart drama, the one over the changelings’ new appearance, people getting upset over being (rightly) called out by Fame and Misfortune (I personally thought it was just the other side of the coin to Slice of Life), the Pillars potentially causing a retcon of Tree of Harmony lore.

There was the whole School of Friendship thing (season 8 was also where I noticed an uptick in fandom whinging). There were Scootaloo’s parents (because, oh, the fans’ poor headcanons!)

Then there was the whole Discord is Grogar thing and the evil trio being sealed in stone (that latter one, btw, is the only drama I’m even remotely sympathetic to).

I think the only thing that saved Pony Life from generating more drama was how ignored it was (among other things, it was clearly just a stopgap measure).

So yeah, there was drama well before G5, drama pretty much every season from (almost) the beginning. I can’t say that I’m surprised, considering this fandom by-and-large sprung up from the cesspool that is 4chan. I mean, I would have hoped we would have evolved past that, but like the primitive inner brain, it’s always there in our DNA, waiting to spring up to make trouble. At least I can always pop the popcorn ponycorn, watch, and laugh (later on).

I at least hope people aren’t harassing the cast and crew over Twitter anymore (look up the Murrison tag here on Derpibooru to see examples of that in the past)

And I mean, I understand being invested in other shows - hell, back in the day, I was probably more invested in Steven Universe than MLP FiM (as far as the show goes, I never got into other material with SU like I did with FiM, and I certainly didn’t join the fandom: I hear it was so toxic it made the brony community look squeaky clean by comparison).

MLP will always hold a special place in my heart, however, and as long as each subsequent installment has the basic ingredients that got me hooked on season 1 all those years ago - a bright, colorful show with fun, well-written characters - I will always have love to extend for it, whether it’s FiM, G5, or G6 some 10-15 years down the line. It has truly helped me to power through some dark times (it and Zootopia are frankly the only two entertainment things that can claim that).

And yeah, I think there was always a certain subset of the fandom (particularly the 4chan crowd, as if anyone’s surprised) who just more felt an ownership of the background characters ever since they convinced the show runners to go through and derp up Derpy’s eyes after her episode 1 appearance in all episodes at the earliest possible instance (which turned out to be Feeling Pinkie Keen, IIRC). They created a whole ecosystem of background characters that, I’m going to be honest, I think they cared about more than even the Mane 6, and I think one thread underpinning pretty much the entire run of FiM was a small but vocal minority getting upset that things weren’t matching up with their headcanons - the realization of how little control they had over the direction of the show was like a splash of cold water to the face.

I mean, I know that’s their right and all, if they want to pack up and leave because of irreconcilable differences with their headcanons, and I suppose it’s their right to gripe and moan about it to anyone willing to listen if they so choose. I don’t know how normal it is, as I haven’t really joined all that many different fandoms, but I would assume it does happen.

However, let me be perfectly blunt so I am not misunderstood here: I neither respect nor care to listen to people like that - life’s too short to waste my time on something like that (there are far more fun ways to waste my time!)

I agree with this comment completely. Sure, in the early days when the brony fandom was less high and mighty the showrunners were more than willing to reference them at various points. The best examples of this are with the character of Derpy (who only became more prominent when bronies started making her apparent) and the episode called Slice of Life. But, as you said, the show itself was never made for the brony community. Frankly, no show exists solely to please its fandom. That would limit the potential target audience far too much. Not only that, but fandoms frequently become very toxic places over time as fans disagree over what the show should be like and what characters they like or hate. Sadly, the brony community has become like that, another toxic fan community filled with disagreements.

Frankly, I can understand why people would want to step away. The fandom has become a crazy place and for many people it’s just time to move on to other things. I know I am largely that way myself-I used to be highly invested in MLP but these days I am more interested in other shows. I still comment here, but not as much as I used to. And I am not in any brony-run Discord servers or on EqD’s forums, either. This is really the only MLP fansite I still visit.

I find it hilarious 😆😆😆😂 that the Brony “community” we’re trying to hype up G5 like it was going to bring them back to internet relevancy. Only to watch them sperg out of control because everything in g4 got pretty much retconned and how now the show is sinking like the freaking Titanic.

Bronies we’re never the driving force of the show. In fact more and more people are quietly stepping away from the community only because how toxic it has become.
