Opaline said she rescued Misty when she was a filly, and given Misty's ignorance of the culture of most places, it's implied that Opaline raised her. Poorly, I should add. Opaline didn't socialize her or anything, and she clearly cares so little for Misty that it's infuriating. Opaline is essentially an abusive (adoptive) mother to Misty, and Misty "puts up" with her because she's her mother and Misty is too scared to try and fend for herself.
Actual abused children simply "put up" with their parents because they just think it's normal. They don't realize just how bad their parents are until they get older, talk with people, look around, and discover that their "reaaally strict" parents were *not* normal and *not okay.*
Misty is one of the best-written characters in this show so far, and I'm eager to see where her story goes.
