Or we could just go off the fact that the MLP writers probably didn’t care about Spike’s canonical age or his age compared to other dragons. BoD Spik3 says he’s a teenager and BoD Zecora says to wait until Spike is mature, which only takes a year. Is it weird for AJ to be crushing on him this hard? Yes. But she’s not looking at a literal baby in a crib and going: “I want me some of that” like a certain trash book series tried to justify.

That would still put Spike at around the age of the Student Six, who are effectively on the early end of High School-aged (min. 14-15, and would thus make him still a minor. Even then, he isn’t their age, being clearly younger than Smolder due to not getting the Molt (again, basically Dragon Puperty) until Season 8. More likely, he’s about 11-13, which is… quite the age gap, considering Rarity is most likely in her mid-twenties.

Also it’s unclear if Applebloom was around during Applejack’s story in Where the Apple Lies. It’s implied she is, but as a baby, which would make Spike older than the CMC by a lot considering Applejack was at least a teen.

Considering he hatched the day that fateful Rainboom happened, and Apple Bloom was already born (albeit an infant) by that point, yes, I’m sure. The only way he could be older was if Bloom had been born in the brief period of time between Spike’s hatching and Applejack returning to SAA from Manehatten, and even then, that still puts them at basically the same age.
Edit: I misremembered Applejack’s Cutie Mark story, Bloom wasn’t there, full fault to me, but I’m still fairly certain that Spike is close to the age(s) of the CMC. Plus, the Molt and dragons getting wings is clearly a play on puberty, meaning he’s still clearly a child.

Isn’t Spike like… I dunno, 5 years younger than the mane 6? Like Twilight hatched him when she was little, so he can’t be THAT much younger than the other ponies.
