Sadly, dupes merged back into originals is just life. :) You may feel angry at the guys who point it out, but it will be merged back regardless. If you want to stop it from happening, search for tags like a good kid.

People do really need to stop freaking out about dupes. Unless it was posted, like 10 minutes ago or something, or it’s just a shitpost, be grateful that you get to see a pretty image again before a mod comes to merge it.
 
And when it comes to reporting it, a quick report and a simple comment ala “reported as a dupe of >>blah” is enough. A long-winded discussion about the dupe means more work for us. And I don’t like doing work.

Alright, I’ll take your advice and do just that, but don’t expect me to know everything about what to tag my image with. Ill try my best but I might miss a few, and also maybe it might set a good example to other “newer” uploaders, who decide to tag images

We have many search tools.
 
I found this image just now by only using:  
Search: width:1600, height:671
 
If you use animated, width:x, height:y, you would probably nail your animated dupes very quickly.

Then change your ways now. Others will follow by example (hopefully). Tag an image properly so when future users upload something with age then manual searching for it’s existence won’t be so damn tedious. You are right however that doesn’t solve the problem for earlier pictures with just the artist:name, pony, image rating.
 
It would be less of a hassle for administrators though if users would just report an image as being a duplicate instead of posting >>xxxxx dupe, even if they did they still seem to post dupe>>xxxxx in the comment section.

Well yeah but some of my uploads are from the early history of this site, back before good/exact/well/on the dot tagging, meaning the original pic might just have nomote then two tags on it, and I don’t feel like searching through thousands of thousands of ten images just for one image. So am I lazy yes, but tedious work is just worse in my eyes

That’s why you search for it manually. C’mon, how hard is it rummaging through images? People should use more accessory tags as to lessen the chance of a duplicate being uploaded. (i.e, famosity, rainbow dash, sleeping). Laziness is the real problem here

Yeah, you’re right that it is pointless hate, so don’t take it personally.
 
Besides, those people are a vocal minority. The rest of us appreciate the effort people like yourself go through to add more content to the site. As mentioned, you can always use the reverse image search or other means of determining if you’ll be uploading a dupe or not.

The reverse search function only works for pngs and jpgs for me, not gifs. So I always upload my gifs knowing there is a fifty-fifty Cunene of it being a dupe, and even if it uploaded as not being one, someone still find the original upload and reports it as being one anyway. I try not to upload dupes, and if someone says it’s one, I report my own upload myself

Those are images that stay, but on images that are dupes(is sadly is what makes up the majority of my uploads) get comments that, since people know it’s not staying, they don’t hold back and let it all out on the OP(which is me). I don’t mind the comments really, it’s just why do they have to say those things on a image, that even I didn’t knew was a dupe. It just seems like “pointless” hate

Actually, forget the example since dupes are usually dealt with quickly and we rarely see comments from them.

Except for troll posts, I have yet to see any scathing, super-critical, or otherwise mean-spirited comments on undeserving uploads. It’s one of the reasons I frequent the site; most people here aren’t assholes.
