That deer looks funny. I mean, I know it’s trying to be in tune with the show, but really, putting sticks behind its ears? Um…

Hopefully the fan bases experince with drama can help the writers mitigate the unfortunate implications found in Faust’s original script. But if I was in charge, I wouldn’t worry too much about creating an argument. As long as both sides are well thought out and realistic, then arguments are a sign you’ve created interesting and enticing characters and stories that people feel strongly about.
 
Unless you fuck up. Then you get shitstorms and drama.

Policy for now is: “If we receive an episode outline much better than any other deer pony outline, we fucking use it.” We want to make a good episode, not limit ourselves.

The most potent analogy I’ve seen is the chocolate sprinkle one. People like chocolate sprinkles, but only when they’re on top of ice cream. A bowl of ice cream with chocolate sprinkles is enjoyable. But a bowl of chocolate sprinkles will just give you a stomach ache.

People were mainly disappointed with it because they praised as being “show-accurate” and released storyboards, trailers etc. for an entire year.

If you chose an episode idea specifically because you couldn’t pick an idea and stick with it, why is the development process so open?

One of the reasons for chosing the deer pony story was because people in the fandom wanted to see the episode happen.

That’s why you set a time frame for ideas (say two weeks tops), take five of the ideas, and then for the next two weeks determine which one would work, not latch onto the scrapped episode.

I just can’t wrap around my mind around some peeps’ Double Rainboom grudge. Did guys want it to be some sort of Brony Gospel? It was what it was, 30 minutes of fan-made animation. Pretty smooth and nearing studio cartoon quality at places, and quite decent voice acting too. It was quite a major project, and it showed.
 
What I don’t get is why people don’t judge it as a fanwork, as what it is. I just don’t know what people expected.
 
Heck, the whole Powerpuff segment was beautifully done. It could’ve been studi made and I mean that.
 
And yet all this nitpicking and tiny grudges? boy oh boy.

It’s not so much stealing from Faust as it is trying to narrow the idea pool. Yes, there are MANY great ideas for an episode, but we don’t want to open the flood gates for months of discussion just because we can’t pick an idea and stick to it.

I expect nothing from this episode currently, though I do wish to be proven wrong. And honestly, I honestly think it’s sad in that they feel like they have to feed of the scraps of Faust’s anecdotes in order to get a decent story. We have many talented writers that could write an episode that doesn’t ultimately have the excuse of “well it was Faust’s idea.”
