Description
Context here: Navy scuttles sailors’ enlisted rating titles

“Officials say the controversial move will improve sailors’ lives and ease their transition into the civilian workforce by broadening their skills in this tectonic shift in Navy’s personnel system to redraw the traditional lines between enlisted job specialties”
Yeah, bullshit. Some of us relied on that specialization for work after the service and even with 7 years of experience as a system administrator in the Navy, (and relevant education) I can’t find work out in the civilian world. It’s not easy for many vets to find jobs after they separate, which is why many of us become contractors.
This was not a good move.
Edited because: removing an repeated word
That is what this picture is saying. It’s the old, tradition-loving farts that are complaining because they believe that the removal of the 200-year-old rating system is going to destroy their identity as their respective rates (especially Boatswain’s Mates: basically the oldest rate in the Navy). With that said, I don’t give a fuck about rate identity. Cross-training isn’t a bad thing.
Umm, you apparently.
