Earth ponies seem to actually have obvious magic in G5; it appears that the land itself bends to their whim. This trailer is clearly showing that ponies are not fully in control of their magic, and that giant magical sinkhole appearing in the middle of the street with a bunch of earth ponies' hooves stuck to the ground with gunk the same color as the sinkhole is implying that the earth ponies are (unintentionally) making that sinkhole appear, and/or the cracked Unity Crystal is doing it through the earth ponies.
That's a little scary. Earthpones can make the earth part and swallow up anything they choose. I suppose more control will allow them to make earth *appear* instead of just disappear, letting them shape the land and use their powers to create instead of just destroy.
