Recalling Sapphire Kite’s warning about cockatrices inhabiting the forest, you decide to err on the side of caution, and tell your companions to equip and activate their antimagic bracelets.
You equip Antimagic Toggle Bracelet.
Once everypony is protected from any potential magic attacks, you carefully continue onward. At your approach, however, the creature springs out of the bush, revealing its long, green, scaly body.
In an instant, the cockatrice is upon you. With a piercing squawk, it spreads its wings widely, and locks its gaze into yours with scintillating red eyes… but it has no effect.
After a brief moment of confusion, it turns to Moonflower, and redoubles the intensity of its gaze… but it has no effect.
Finally, the creature turns to gaze at Apple Basket, the confidence in its eyes faltering… but once again, it has no effect.
Realizing that none of you are affected by its magic gaze, the cockatrice turns to stare at… nothing in particular. Perhaps at the ground, or perhaps at something beyond it that no one else can see.
Then, slowly, it turns around, and begins to strut away, uncertain. An uncertainty born of the very certitude it once had, a solid monument now crumbled to dust; the knowledge of an ever increasing unknown, wherein questions only beget more questions.
And as each step leads it to and from the here and the now, it sets forth in search of something. Be it of an answer, or of something else entirely — something it never knew could be known —, lost, somewhere between a memory and a dream, both having since faded into one and the same.
Apple Basket: “Uh… I dunno what jus’ happened, but I guess you made the right call. That really wasn’t a chicken. And you said these lil’ buggers can turn you to stone jus’ like that? I’m startin’ to think the spiders we got back home ain’t all that bad.”
Moonflower: “Heehee! Ya just gotta know what you’re dealin’ with, that’s all!”
With the road now safe, you continue on your way until you reach the other side of the Everfree Forest. As the verdant canopy makes way for the bright blue sky, you take off your bracelets, and enter Ponyville.
You unequip Antimagic Toggle Bracelet.
Having yet to explore much of the expansive town, you look around for any landmarks you might recognize from your last visit.
• The road north leads to the town square, and the town hall.
• The road east leads to the Castle of Friendship.
• The road south leads back to the Everfree Forest.
• The road west leads to Sweet Apple Acres, and Carrot Top Gardens.
