Indeed. Yes, things did evolve, such as the horns, coat markings and cutie mark being on just one side, but considering Its still the same universe and the evidence coming along with the movie, it should be the same thing.

Cutie marks in G5 may not work in the same way as they did in G4. The whole “you get your cutie mark when you learn what your role in life is” concept was invented by Lauren Faust; it may only be a FIM thing.
No, the movie showed sunny, hitch and Sprout not having cms. It’s either a design thing / something overlooked / not cared about or pipp simply got her cm that early
