Breakfast seems like a good idea, but if we can wrangle a unicorn and pegasus it might be nice to get a discussion on magic going while we eat; head off any misconceptions.
Your party decides to head to Sungrain Fields for a simple breakfast.
You make your way south until you reach the road, then follow it westward. As the golden grasslands come into view, you cross paths with a short-bearded unicorn stallion pulling a small food cart behind him.
Stallion: “G’morning! You folks hungry?”
You nod, and ask the stallion what he has for sale.
Stallion: “Sale? Actually, I was just about to deliver these to the bat pony settlement, but seeing as you’ve got one of ‘em with you, I thought I’d offer you a meal.
How about some cereal? There’s plenty to go around. Whole wheat — boiled, dried, cooked and cut — with a splash of Sweet Farmstead milk and some fresh berries from Whitetail Wood. What do you say?”
Moonflower: “Ooh, yes please!”
With a friendly smile, the stallion uses his unicorn magic to levitate a picnic blanket over to the side of the road, where it unfolds squarely upon soft grass.
Then, from a sack and an icebox, three wooden bowls are expertly filled with cereal, milk, and mixed berries all at once, and floated over and onto the blanket without spilling a drop.
Stallion: “Enjoy!”
You each thank the stallion, before sitting down together on the blanket to eat. The golden, crisp wheat, slightly softened by the cold milk and sweetened by juicy berries, makes for a delicious and energizing breakfast.
While you eat, you decide to strike up a conversation with the unicorn. You commend his dexterous levitation skills, and ask how knowledgeable he is about magic.
Stallion: “Why, thank you! To tell you the truth, I don’t know much about magic at all. In fact — like most unicorns outside of Canterlot, I’d wager —, levitation is the only spell I know.”
You nod, and recalling Moondancer’s lesson on the fundamentals of magic, you ask him if he was ever taught about those.
Stallion: “Can’t say that I was. Even as a colt, the only books I was into were cookbooks. My magic shines in the kitchen, and I’ll leave the hows and whys of it to ponies smarter than I. Hah!”
Moonflower: “Heehee! But ya still had to learn how to levitate stuff, right?”
Stallion: “You could say that. Levitation is innate to most unicorns, like an extension of our own horns. It takes practice to get the hang of it, sure, and some ponies are better at it than others. Just like flying is for pegasi — or, well, bat ponies, too, I assume.”
Moonflower: “Oh, got’cha!”
Soon enough, you finish drinking what fruity milk is left in your bowl, then return it to the stallion along with your compliments to the chef. You feel satiated.
Stallion: “My pleasure! Like my ma used to say, a well fed pony is a happy one.”
Once every bowl is gratefully returned, the blanket is folded back into the cart, and the unicorn begins to attach the traces back to his belt.
Stallion: “Now, I’d best get back on the road before anypony else gets hungry. Have a good day!”
You bid farewell to the stallion, and he resumes his journey eastward, humming jauntily.
