The ‘New Canterlot Republic’ flag sure looks a lot like the California flag, only replacing the (long since extinct) California grizzly with an Ursa bear and replacing the ‘California Republic’ text with the ‘New Canterlot Republic’ text.
Edit: Oh wait, I now realize that this could be a reference to ‘Fallout: Equestria’, since the ‘New California Republic’ is an actual place in the Fallout games, which FoE largely references (hence the term ‘Fallout’ in the name).
