(Addendum: by “capitalist” I mean “someone employing capital.” Filthy Rich was an arbitrageur; he bought and resold. Flim and Flam were investors, in their own product.

Owning a family farm like AJ or a small business like Rarity might make you more receptive to economic libertarianism, but these two ponies appear to be as big on social structures as anypony else. Even AJ’s episode-central individualism was animated more by pride than ethics. Both AJ and Rarity throw themselves cheerfully into Ponyville’s frequent courvée labor projects: Winter Wrap-Up, Summer Sun Celebration, et cetera.

What a nice, mature comment. Oh wait.

But seriously, go ahead. Convince me that the inhabitants of an eternal monarchy in a TV show called “Friendship is Magic” are really all about individual liberty against tyranny and personal achievement as a nobler good than societal advancement.

I doubt any pony would actually enjoy the various high-individualism strains of American politics, such as the Pauls or Ayn Rand. Their society obviously values friendship, harmony, and other prosocial virtues much higher than profit or individual fame. There isn’t an Element of Wealth, after all – “greed is good” almost certainly doesn’t fly there.

Even Filthy Rich, the most obviously “capitalist” pony we’ve seen, paid a small family farm a fair price for the cream of the zap-apple crop, obviously for profitable redistribution later. Flim and Flam are another example, and they were an episode’s villains/foils.

I think I may have started something terrible when I spent three hours on Omegle asking people if they supported R. Paul’s proposals to legalize various obscure and demented sexual practices.
