Now I’m imagining a MGS2 style scenario where Twilight gets informed of all the horrible shit that gets predicted by the fandom and telling her that she has no input on the fate of Equestria and how she’s nothing but a pawn :P

Exactly. And again, it was never stated that Alicorn’s are immortal, for all we know Celestia and Luna aren’t ponies persay, and could be the embodiment of the sun and moon which is why they now move on there own in G5.

Even if history judges Twilight a failure, that’s not really her fault, because she was only acting on information available to her at the time. To say otherwise is to commit the historian’s fallacy.

It might not have even been her, it could have been Dawn’s successor, or heck, Twilight might have left Equestria to a council to rule, we don’t know, but its been hundreds to thousands of years, so long that Twilight is now just a myth.

I personally theorize that there was a gradual decline, serious issues began to pop up that either wouldn’t or couldn’t be addressed, and then there was a major event - a war, natural disaster, what have you - that broke the proverbial camel’s back.

And I think that we’ll either get an answer for what happened between G4 and G5 by either Hasbro themselves, one of the writers, the creator of Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow herself, or it’ll probably just be left up to the fans imagination, either way the G4 fans and purists are not going to be happy campers if and when they spill the beans someday.

Twilight: Wait, how do you know that?! Can you predict the future??

It’s just a matter of time. The rules of the series were always clear: Despite of the Alicorns beign the superiors of the pony race, and protectors of Equestria, no one is immortal. Everyone has to wither away eventually, and Twilight was not the exception to the rule. Something that calls my attention is that pones have a really slow progress, speaking about technology. In the G4, the ponies had a mix between some modern technologies such as photo cameras, motorized vehicles, drain systems, and telephones, but they also have past technologies such as oil lamps, wagons, candles, and shields and spears as weapons. Why I mention this? Well, how I said, it’s clear that the ponies in their universe have a pretty slow advance in their technology. We can avail this in the end of the series, where all our protagonists are old, but the technology seems as the same as the begining of the series.

Taking this in consideration, we can say two things: Everypony is destined to perish, and the ponies are slow developing technology. Under this logic, the time between the G4 and G5 is totally unknown. It could be millenials! Because remember, Alicorns live longer lives than ponies, still there’s no signs of Luna, Celestia, or Twilight. The ponies in the G5 also have advanced technology, even more advanced than our technology in real life. They have existent things like social media, smartphones, modern cities with spectacular publicity, HD cameras, computers, TV, etcetera. However, they also have advanced tech such as mechas, cutting edge robotics, and others things.

What’s my point? Well, you must remember my previous points: Ponies die, it doesn’t matter their species. Ponies are slow developing their technology unlike us humans. The G5 have advanced technology similar to the tech we have. You see what I’m trying to say? The time past between G4 and G5 is probably incalcullable under this logic! Twilight is probably dead, and so her friends and her legacy. If you want my opinion, this is a analogy to the real world and people who we thought they’ll change forever the world. Yet, everything feels the same, or us as society in real life forget those ideals, regardless if they are wrong or right. That’s what could be happening with the current state of the universe in My Little Pony.

At the end, we can’t blame Twilight for this. She made all she could done in her lifetime, but things aren’t just forever. Instead of blaming her of the decay in the relationships between of the different species in Equestria, we should wonder: Who made this? And why? Our questions will remain with no answer for now. Patience, people.

There should be a feelsy artpiece of this conversation.

This could actually be a moment in the show.

Spike is best dragon here. Even if things will go wrong, that doesn’t mean it is worth doing nothing at all.

Every change to make the world a better place is worthwhile.

Yeah as others have said, blaming Twilight for the world of G5 makes about as much sense as blaming William the Conqueror’s victory at Hastings for the rise of Hitler. Sure, the events a historically connected, but the former’s contribution to the latter’s rise is a rounding error numerically speaking.

Also, Twilight, like Celestia and Luna before her, isn’t omniscient, thus even if psychohistory (for example) is real in the world of MLP G4, there’s no way she could see that far into the future.

It’s sad to see that the writers choosed to revert the status quo of Equestria simply to have their characters to fix it on the span of one movie. It really made for a hollow story, even though the new characters are rather likeable.

That said whoever did this edit, nailed it. Kudos.

Yes! Has everypony forgotten King Sombra? That was during Celestia and Luna’s rule. He was just a selfish unicorn that wanted to rule over all ponies with dark magic. And those who say “Oh every threat was defeated.” Ummm to quote Emperor Marcus from the movie Gladiator “There is always someone left to fight.” New threats showed up, constantly in the series, and new threats will continue to show up.

No one can keep an empire at peace for over a millennium it’s impossible. Even during Celestia and Luna’s rule there were conflicts and wars.
