Exchanging for a different color should be reasonable enough. Just make sure the pair she gets is cheaper than what the pair she’s holding is worth.
Though, i can also see it from the cashier’s point of view. Particularly, if they didn’t see Twilight come into the store with the socks in hoof, then they’d have no way of knowing if she’s been in the store for some time, took a box of socks off the store shelf and is now trying to ‘return’ them for a full refund. I’ve heard of such happening.

Ellen works at a grocery store anyways, not a clothing store. ;-)
I wouldn’t be surprised if Ellen was like Larry here and worked everywhere!

(Looks back on day, including a pile of saw blades from another store chain, covered in that store’s logos, outright labeled “Exclusive at Other Chain” that somebody managed to return without a receipt because refusing something so ludicrous is bad customer service)

I support the cashier here, you do not have to accept a refund without first verifying that it is a product purchased in the store that works.

There is a good reason for the BS… basically assholes take advantage of anything they can, so in order to not lose money all the time, they have to do things like require receipts
