Artist here. My fanfiction (that this pic comes from) has a scene where Discord explains to Cozy why they turned them into stone in the first place. I did the best I could to have it make sense of things where the S9 finale may have seem a bit cluttered and rushed to some fans in case you’re interested in checking it out.

There was no reason to turn the villains to stone given their weakened state, the fact that villains have been given chances before them and considering Discord’s involvement in the whole thing, which involved some truly evil manipulations on his part. It was unneccesary cruelty for villains that could have been reformed or at the very least put into normal prisons.

These three were just protecting their country from three villains who said they will always return. turning them to stone to prevent that.
these three don’t deserve that not even discord maybe a stern talking too and taking magic for a month in discords case but they all were trying to do what they felt was the right thing to help those they care about, they certainly don’t deserve this.
