What is wrong with everypony? I mean, is this some sort dark age where society regressed?

I wonder, if the ‘Three Main Pony Races’ view so highly negative of each other. How negative do they view other Ponies and Equines? Bat Ponies, Hippocampus, Hippogriffs, Sphinx Ponies, Changelings, Zebras, etc.

But seriously. Why didn’t the Ponies stay in touch after this mysterious magic disappearance?
