The original show shouldn’t have happened. I don’t mean this in a negative way, but it shouldn’t have… It was a fluke.

Then again, I wouldn’t put it past good ol’fashioned =FUCKING IRONY= to take this opportunity in making it better than the original.

I’d laugh my ass off.

All subjective. Some will like Equestria Girls better than FiM and vice-versa. I wouldn’t mind giving the show a shot.

ATTENTION BRONIES, THIS is the CORRECT response.
Or I guess we could all complain about how everything that happens is THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING! to happen to the show… whatever.
Background Pony #CA6B
I’d say that’s unlikely, but then, if FIM has taught me anything, it’s to not judge things until I actually know something about them. We shall see.
Dragonlord954

I do not see the big deal. Worst case scenario is that it airs for about half a season before cancellation. Best case is that it’s actually good (however doubtful that is)

Nah, I don’t think EqG is going to generata that much of a uproar, pretty much nobody expects it to be good, and it won’t impact the main show.
So why bother? Try it out, if it’s shite, then just ignore it like the corporate propaganda it is.

I honestly can’t accuse them of feeding us false intentions. From day one half the fanbase was calling this a cash-in, and Hasbro has done everything they can to keep us in the dark about it. The only time they mention it is when they say “we are going to increase the brand’s value by expanding it into dolls.” Hasbro certainly hasn’t made us any promises about the special, so it’s not like we can say they broke any.

The EQG movie is going to be a 60 minute toy commercial without any of the love and care that went into FiM, and if Hasbro knows this then they have no reason to hype it to the adult fanbase. They know that when we see it in full, we’ll just roll our eyes and say it sucks. They aren’t making any promises to us because they probably know we are going to react at least as badly as we did to Magical Mystery Cure.

Although, that last part is a race I probably wouldn’t want to bet on. On the one hand, the fans are very loyal to FiM’s writers and are very hesitant to say bad things about Magical Mystery Cure, but on the other hand, it does have very far reaching implications for the show’s future. EQG has no weight on the future of FiM that we know of, however it is even more of a corporate product than Twilicorn was, and there is no-one from FiM involved thus it is far easier to criticize without feeling like FiM’s staff is being insulted.

Well, if they don’t pretend that this is going to be just as good for bronies, I’ll be okay with it.
It’s alright if the spinoff is shite, as long as they’re honest about their intentions.

Spinoffs aren’t always worse than the original. They can be decent, but ONLY if the staff of the spinoff either are the same as on the original, or really know what they’re doing.

We already know Equestria Girls shares none of the writing staff from FiM, and we don’t know if any of FiM’s animators or directors at Studio B/DHX are involved (we’ve only heard Top Draw, the 3rd-party studio DHX outsources work to, are on the project).

Hell, at this point we don’t even know if the original VA’s are going to reprise their roles. For all we know, Hasbro may record this in Los Angeles.
(I imagine it probably will be recorded in Vancouver, b/c LA voice actors are extremely expensive; see Tara Strong)

If Hasbro had anyone working on this show that was worth bragging about, I think they would have announced it by now to quell some of the criticism from the fanbase. I think they are keeping their mouths shut because the only demographic they’re interested in doesn’t know the difference between one writer and another.

I am pretty sure that Hasbro does not expect this show to have much appeal to Bronies. They are pretty much referring to it exclusively as a business thing, and they have made no attempt to get Bronies excited about it, which might mean they already see that as a lost cause.

Well, I pointed that out on “or a writing team of the same caliber”, but yeah, not seeing how this could be good.
Sure, maybe it will, miracles happen, but so far, I’m not impressed.

the show could be good of it’s own sure, but then why use fim characters instead of making a new show with it’s own merit ?

It’s not just Lauren Faust who isn’t involved, either– no-one from the original show’s writing staff is being carried over. EQG is being made purely by Hasbro’s marketing people with no input from FiM’s writers, which means there’s a high probability that it will be the same kind of crap they used to make before FiM. They are playing it safe and following trends that have been proven profitable. They did the opposite with FiM because before then, the franchise wasn’t making them money so they weren’t afraid of letting Lauren Faust “screw it up” with her re-imagining.
