I only brought it the forums after, not before, this discussion and OP talking about the toy being an alicorn and not a unicorn, organically led me to discuss her being an alicorn was never the true issue. Its as simple as that.

I’ve always found that backwards argument odd.
 
If its an issue that effects only one season of the show, sure, it makes sense.
 
But if its a constant writing issue that accumulates, like Twilight having no agency for 6 continous seasons, people might have some valid issue. It could effect each season in different ways, and in many ways it did.
 
Plus it was the uploader that brought up the toy being an alicorn and not a unicorn afterall.

Odd regarding the weird and off topic comments moderating my last two comments….they clearly stated that her having wings was just a cosmetic thing that barely bothered me. Her having no agency was a far bigger issue to me. .
 
And I feel that’s a topic worth discussing : )
 
Twilicorn isn’t an issue. It was the writing that followed it.

Don’t worry, once Sunny becomes an alicorn in g5, we can relitigate alicorns all over again. The only difference now will be the whole “how could a mud pony become an alicorn?!” schtick will be added to the mix.

If they made Pony Twilight less of a toady instead of more of one along with the alicorn transformation, then give me all the Twilicorn. All of it. They are just wings. Its the writing that follows that I care about.

To recap what I just said:
 
For one, I was just wondering how two people could simultaneously forget Twilight spent most of her life as an unicorn. That’s….kind of an impossible thing to forget, you have to admit.
 
Second, as I just pointed out, Twilicorn is kind of just a ‘meh’ issue. It was never not a bad decision, but it was hardly the biggest issue with Twilight. Sci-Twi got wings in the 4th EG movie, but it wasn’t really a big deal. She was still herself and she still made her own decisions.
 
The REAL annoying part was giving Pony Twilight no agency in the rest of the show. She was given a preset endgoal, and never diverged from it. Did you enjoy that?
 
Imagine if Pony Twilight actually made some life decisions for herself in the show.
 
Heck, they made a whole theatrical release movie where the biggest conflict is Twilight screws up the entire team by being laser focused on Celestia’s mission that she ignores input from her friends…and then they really didn’t do anything with that besides rely on teamwork in the final act like they always do.
 
Give Twilight some agency along with the wings, instead of taking agency away, and I would probably remember Twilicorn as a great idea.

I always got the impression that MLP:FiM only hired episodic writers and song writers, but never even once considered hiring a character arc writer or story arc writer. Makes you wonder sometimes.
 
I mean, lets be honest here. At the end of S4, Discord publically betrays the entire populace of Equestria to help Tirek, and at the end of the episode, Discord gives Celestia some roses, and everyone forgets about that incident immediately.
 
No writer that EVER touched a story arc was allowed to work on THAT scene. XD

She spent ~16-18 years of her life as a UNICORN, starting from birth, and the only major timeskip happened in the epilogue. Season 4-9 only means most of her screentime, not most of her life, just several years. Did you two somehow confuse the two?
 
She spent most of her pre-epilogue life as a unicorn.
 
It would be downright odd to not remember her by her most iconic form, the form we were introduced to, and the form that she was born with. Dont you think?

Now I suppose one could argue we remember characters by when their character arc begins…
 
….but the end of S3 is basically where her character arc ends. They focus less on her individual quirks, it’s made obvious that she’s being setup to be Celestia’s replacement, and, cut forward to the series finale, and BOOM, she’s made Celestia’s replacement.
 
I mean there wasn’t even any gravitas or decision making put into it. Her whole goal between season 4-season 9, and arguably earlier, is to meet Celestia’s expectations, and we get no mixup of that outside the comics.
 
I wonder why the writers wrote Twilight with zero agency.
 
I have way more of a problem with that then something as cosmetic as a few wings added on.

I think the resolution of this image matches an AI-upscaled video, which does not represent what the movie would actually look like in 4K. The original source of that video (see >>2679618) is still the highest resolution version available that isn’t cropped at the sides, though.
