But I can’t just trap my cat inside all the time without some fresh air. And cat toys just don’t do it to him. He needs something alive to satiate his instinct as a natural hunter. Plus he looks really sad when he can’t go out and play.

Don’t worry, my cat doesn’t hunt too often. He actually only killed a bird once and he usually only play with bugs and geckos in the house, and he mostly stays within the vicinity of the house. I just don’t want to restrict my cat’s freedom too much. :P

You shouldn’t be letting pets (especially cats) run around outside unattended either*, but it is better than depriving a carnivorous animal of meat.

If you want a vegan pet, GET a vegan pet. Like a rabbit. Rabbits are just as cute and cuddly as any cat or dog.

Also calling bullshit on your world record, neither Wikipedia nor the Guinness Book show a “vegan dog” in the top spot.

I worked at an animal sanctuary for four years. We got this worn out dog from a puppy mill. She had been forced to give birth to 76 puppies. She was so tired she couldn’t even walk more than five paces before collapsing. After a month on a vegan diet she was jumping on all the furniture and running around like crazy!

A vegan dog broke the world record for oldest dog. Dogs absolutely thrive on plant based diets. It’s certainly much better nutritionally than the grade c or d meat most people feed them.

Cats on the other hand are a different story. Some of them thrive on plants while others need meat. But nobody here is qualified to have this conversation if you yourself, as someone who can get all the nutrients you need from plants, is still contributing to factory farms, slaughterhouses, and dairy operations.

Thanks for clarifying. We have both dogs and a cat in our household and since none of us is vegetarian we feed them meat too, but even if we were I would make sure my sweet little cat gets all the meat he needs.

Dogs aren’t omnivores, they’re carnivores, but they’re not obligate carnivores. They can digest some plant material, but they absolutely need meat to survive and to be healthy.
 
Cats are obligate carnivores. They have little-to-no capacity to digest plants. They need a diet almost exclusively comprised of meat.
 
Vegans who try to force their carnivorous pets to adopt their meat-free lifestyle are monsters who should be charged with animal abuse and have their pets taken away, and they should never be allowed to have another living thing under their care.

The idea that vegan diets for cats and dogs are so common there’s a product for it is scary, especially for cats because they’re not omnivores like dogs.
