The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Background Pony
Point taken, and in light of the article you linked, I can only laugh harder at the empty-headed PC brigades who think this will actually do anything. I still don’t see why any attempt to restrict freedom of speech/expression shouldn’t be treated as a risk, though.

The EU will be the saviour of the world i tell you!

It’s indeed impossible, but they could try to ban as many as possible and just be happy with the limited result they’ll made.

No way they are proposing to ban porn, with all the money it generates arround the world.

That first, and second: no fucking way i’m gonna believe a header that includes the expression “Yes, really.”, with a misspelling in it, no less…

Yes, but presenting it as a story about impending legislation to ban all porn is pure hyperbole. The Pirate Party has a foot in the door of the European parliament; bellowing “the sky is falling!” through that little gap is just going to hurt their legitimacy. EDRI has a far more level-headed (if brief) write-up:

There is no way they could ban ALL the porn..
How are they going to enforce it?

Hire some guys looking to find all porn sites and then just ban them one by one even if the site is not in europe? By some kind of IP ban? If that happened I would be surprised…

It’s stated very clearly in the source blog that it’s an initiative report. But while we’re on the subject, the initiative report does include a proposal to ban porn as one of its points. As if that will do anything to fix gender stereotypes.

This buried the needle on my bullshit gauge, and sure enough with a bit more investigation you find the writer is putting two and two together and coming up with the answer “pineapple”. This is not, by any stretch of the imagination, going to make pornography against the law; it’s not even a law being proposed here. It’s nothing more than a proposal to encourage countries to examine issues of gender bias in the media and self-regulate on those issues. The blogger himself points to similar wording in a 1997 bill, and this looks like it will have about as much impact as that one did. The fact that this isn’t making waves in the mainstream media (like Iceland’s genuine draft parliamentary proposals did a couple of weeks ago) should raise a red flag over how much credence to place in this story.

Do you believe that it’s in the public’s best interests for people to be unable to lawfully and publicly make statements you disagree with?
