Backstory:  
A young Flurry Heart stepped down from the throne long ago to save Equestria alongside her friends. In her place, she selected (not evil) descendants of King Sombra to watch over the Crystal Empire. Generations passed until Snow Opal was born as a part of the family.  
Snow Opal needed to complete a rite of passage in order to enter the family’s royal council. To succeed, he needed to perform a spell completely synthesized by himself. Snow’s experimenting and tweaking of this spell went up to the night before his ceremony, with parts of it still looking fatally incomplete. It pulled off though, and the spell allowed him to create wings and tailfeathers made of iridescent crystal glass. Additionally, his horn would turn a glistening purple for as long as the spell was activated.  
When he became too exhausted to keep the spell going, Snow Opal noticed that his Cutie Mark appeared! From then on, he found a niche for himself as the face of the royal unicorn family. His appearances as a diplomatic leader and kind spirit earned him the name Lord Opulence. While no single member of the council is supposed to hold more power than any other member, Lord Opulence’s public presence results in his words having more sway among diplomats. At some points, he has used this strength for his own personal gain, often to the detriment of the Empire. It will take the strength of his daughter, Star Sorceress, to set him straight before he puts his power toward something truly evil.
