The copy+paste character designs are still bad, you’ve just explained why it’s done.

This, pretty much. I remember seeing PPG for the first time, before I watched the show. I didn’t like the design at all. But it grew on me. It really, really grew on on me!
 
If they can keep the spirit of MLP:FIM alive, keep the show funny and entertaining, then I’m all for it.
 
If it’s dumb or lame, I’m out.

I hate how people are complaining about the show itself when we don’t even have a preview. Criticizing the designs is one thing but don’t say anything about how bad it is when we don’t know a thing about it.

The only thing I really dont like is the cutie mark on the cheek. AJ for instance looks like she has herpes. Putting them on the hand or arm would have been better. Or hell, they’re already on the clothes, just go with that.

Also, these characters barely even qualify as “human” versions. At this point, they are borderline anthro, so I don’t know what kind of whack plot they are going to have for what kind of world they exist in for the spinoff show (assuming there is an actual show in production, and this doesn’t end up just being a toy line).

To me, same bodies, clothes and concept are not issues. Long hair is ok if they are designed well, which isn’t the case here.
 
The worst part is that they make them anthro.

I still reserve judgement until I see the damn thing. I remember I hated the look of the Zelda Windwaker characters with the creepy deformed look and those crazy cat-eyes, but the style grew on me once I saw it in action. While I admit I’m not a fan of what these designs look like, I’m willing to at least give it a fair chance.
 
Really, it comes down to what they actually do with all of this. If the story is good and the characters stay in character with their alternate counterparts, then I’ll probably enjoy it. Otherwise, pass.

I WILL buy the dolls for sure. Will the show itself be good? THAT is a wait and see.

I wasn’t actually that worried about Equestria Girls when I saw the first image. This new one looks horrible though. They have tails, pony ears and wings, but no horns? Also, Twilight Sparkle is a pegasus now instead of a unicorn?
 
Their heads only seem to have gotten bigger, too. This looks like some kind of abomination drawn by Palcomix.

Yeah, if Hasbro didn’t even try to do what it thinks will make money, the show would’ve been stillborn.
 
Also, before people say “JUST APPEAL TO US AND EVERYTHING WILL BE PEACHY”, we account for less than half of their profit from this series. We still have a notable influence, but we’re still second banana to the primary audience.

I love how some people seem to think that a business automatically becomes some evil heartless corporate demon as soon as it tries to turn a profit. As if that isn’t how business has worked for every single business that has ever existed.
