Yes. They see the G4 generation as the best around over any generation. Cartoon style, story, characters, etc. They don’t like it when something else comes along to possibly gain more popularity than it’s predecessor. Most would rather the development team use the same artstyle for the next season. Actually any game, movie, or show that has purist will more than likely not like whatever comes next because of how good it originally was (Teen Titans Go probs). A big example I can give is the crap with two games, Genshin Impact and Zelda; BOTW nearly a year back. GI took heavy inspiration from BOTW’s game mechanics and implemented them into their version, with a lot of different gameplay differences still used. However though, most of BOTW lovers (or purist) didn’t like that at all whatsoever to the point that a Chinese player destroyed his PS4 in public in complete fury. It finally died down, but when Genshin came out, not many were happy and they completely forget the fact that game developers will always take inspiration from other games. Every FPS and musuo game ever.

Ok, when they say they’re “G4 purists,” does that mean they like all of G4, more or less? Disliking certain episodes is fair enough, but do they also like and defend Twilicorn, glim glam, and the school of friendship?

Stay loyal sounds so weird. Like we’re in some sort of war. So is saying that you’re criticized for your moral principles. “I like G4!” or “I like G5!” sounds more like a personal preference than a moral principal to me. No offense, but this all sounds overly dramatic.
 
Well I’m excited for G5 and you can rest assured that I don’t hate you or act like a moron by calling you Hitler. Some people like G4, some people like G5, some people like both. It’s not a big deal and neither should it be. Likewise, there are people who hate FiM and prefer the previous generations and that’s perfectly okay, too. No reason to get upset about someone not liking the same things you do.

Do you know what my problem is? It’s not pony life or the G5, if people like change, then they can do what they want, my problem is that just because I have decided to stay loyal to the G4 people see me as a bad person who hates everything that is not of the G4 and even compares me to someone like Hitler …  
Being criticized for your moral principles, this is discrimination, this is the fandom problem now.  
Then I would like to remind you that this is the mlp fandom so all fans of all generations have the right to be part of it.  
It’s not just the G5 fandom for this you have to accept the fact that there are also fans of other generations.  
The real change that the fandom has to accept is not that the G4 will be replaced by the G5, but that the fandom will now be made up of both G4 and G5 fans.  
However, I don’t even know why I’m saying this since I know that no one will understand me because people have forgotten that once the motto of this fandom was love and tolerance, that one of the reasons why we loved these ponies and their show was because of its moral values that it conveyed.  
I fully hoped that even after the end of the G4 and with the beginning of the G5 there was still hope for this fandom, but seeing how things work now, I realize that it is a vain hope … that’s why people are leaving.

Past seasons got criticized. And sometimes I feel like criticism prevented newcomers from giving the show a chance. Imagine if they agreed with the criticisms with the show and treating it like gospel, just like a majority of cartoons these days.
 
What changes do you want from the show, then? Nothing? List me a few changes that are good for the show IN YOUR EYES.

And maybe if enough people rejected the changes and dropped the show to threaten it, maybe it’s a sign they weren’t entirely good?

Ugh. Even without the changes that pissed the fandom off, it still will be stale, just like Simpsons and SpongeBob, right?
 
Without change, what’s the point of where the show’s going if Hasbro listens to the anti-change crowd of the fandom? This is why I don’t like the fandom sometimes. The ones who left the show due to the changes are the reason MLP is no longer loved and popular anymore and Generation 4 will be forgotten because the show went stale in everyone’s eyes thanks to G5.

Keep Twilight as a unicorn for the rest of the series? Shiny and Cadance not having a kid? Starlight and changelings not reformed? Golden Oaks stay untouched for the rest of the series? No school for newcomers? Equestria Girls not existing? Discord not being undercover as Grogar? (well that last one is agreeable)

Not every change is good. To say that all change has to be positively received is an inhuman decision chiefly because it isn’t a decision.
