Some people who disliked the finale sent threats to the writers and producers, because it isn’t a fandom without the “dumb.”  
That said, bringing that up in the context of this conversation is a fallacy. It makes no real argument for or against anything, and instead insinuates that anyone who dislikes this finale for must also be among those who sent threats to the staff. This is false, and I offer myself as a counter example: I heartily disapprove of both the finale And the way the creators were treated by fans.

Another less pessimism way I could phrase it, is that the ending makes it harder to appreciate the previous episodes. I suppose it’s not too hard to disconnect the earlier seasons from the ending. Heck, it barely feels like the same show anyway. I still do love certain earlier episodes. Nothing can take that away. I do just wish that that same magic could’ve been preserved until the end, but I suppose that is a rarity for television anyway, especially for a series this long.
 

 
The lack of evidence of their freedom in The Last Problem makes it very difficult for me to believe they were freed by that point. If the writers want us to make up our own ending, then I imagine a happy end for them, and every creature eventually.

That heartfelt speech you gave Twilight, the way you handed Celestia those flowers, I thought you would change your asshole personality and be more like, as cliche as this sounds, the Genie from Disney’s Aladdin. You think you’re so above the consequences because you’re a trickster character and has the perks of still being an ally while also being unreliable. Not to mention, people see you in high ground because your voice actor worked in Star Trek. Well I don’t like Star Trek buddy. Your celebrity star power has no effect on me.  
And before everybody hounds me on that Chrysalis is just a 100% monster, I don’t fucking care. Sometimes fanon can be way more satisfying than canon.

Despite what I wrote above, I don’t think this ruins the show’s entire legacy. Let’s not go too far. But I’m sorry that this scene completely ruined your look on FiM.  
At least fancomics and fanfics are still possible. In fact, maybe the writers did this on purpose so that the fans can decide their fates.

The crossover with Transformers is meant to be its own continuity as it has different elements from different seasons. Heck, the first issue begins with Quibble Pants complaining about the comic he’s reading doing a similar thing.

Maybe not, but he did still plan for them to attack Twilight at her coronation knowing they’d be defeated, so he’s still at fault either way. Besides, after his experience with Tirek, he should’ve seen their betrayal coming.

And he didn’t plan to let his powers get stolen by them, which caused this whole issue in the end!
