How about we just agree to not consume things that can make us sick, be it inedible products, foreign bodies, chemicals, TikTok, and everything inbetween.
That said, I wouldn’t purposely expose myself to several classes of chemicals, just to prove the point, e.g. PCBs, PBBs, dimethylmercury, nickel tetracarbonyl, etc.
Hmmm. Yeah, I guess it makes sense that modern toothpaste is probably not very dangerous.
Still not gonna be fun, but it probably won’t do much real harm.
Hmm. The article linked talks about fluoride, but there are other things in toothpaste. There is a detergent, not too dissimilar from what we use to wash clothing or dishes. Its hideous flavor is disguised by the only chemical capable of masking it, oil of peppermint. Consuming detergent can irritate the digestive tract badly and result in diarrhea.
There’s also a very mild abrasive, powdered chalk. The carbonates in the powdered chalk will react with stomach acids to produce carbon dioxide gas, maybe in sufficient quantity to cause a tummyache before you could eat enough toothpaste for the other things to happen. Maybe. Not trying to create the next Tide Pod Challenge here.
You would have to swallow an obscene amount of the stuff for it to actually be toxic.
This made me laugh, thanks
