Yeah, but it still had it’s faults. I can still remember that B.S. sudden energybending that came out of nowhere. A cop out so great, it caused all the trouble in “Legend of Korra”.
Says who? I wouldn’t watch the show if it wasn’t a SoL most of the time (heck, the last watchable non-SoL was Return of Harmony).
The show isn’t going to be “Burn Notice”.
True…but you have to remember that they can’t keep doing ‘regular’ episodes forever. Any media that doesn’t change and grow will inevitably be doomed to stagnate and die.
I understand people’s concerns with twicorn in that regard, but I realise that it also opens new opportunities for storytelling and show direction.
Like it or not, a show such as this cannot survive on slice-of-life episodes, thus a change such as this was going to come about eventually.
I know I’m a Cadance detractor and that seems to get swept under the rug. “Oh, everypony accepted it.”
Um, I didn’t, she’s still AWFUL.
Plus, a lot of people’s concerns focus more on the effects the change will have on regular episodes, which we won’t know until season 4.
EXACTLY! Gah, why are people acting like the haters whom never gave the show a chance to begin with.
Seriously people, each and every last one of us had to be told something among the lines of “don’t knock it ’till you try it” when you first gave mlp a shot, so why not apply the same logic to the upcoming episode?
Who says I think it has an effect? People criticize movies all the time and those are written in stone barring the odd sequel.
You can whine but it will have ZERO effect. You may as well be talking to a brick wall.
I direct you to the usual responses in http://derpiboo.ru/images/229069
Summary: “Okay, if this isn’t jumping the shark, what IS?”
“Um, nothing?”
Which makes me think people aren’t being rational at all.
Plus, I highly doubt ANYONE could write well enough to make me buy this as anything but an ass-pull in just 22 minutes. And no, vague “destiny” stuff doesn’t cut it, as that could literally mean anything from “the next step after learning is teaching” to “you’ve learned from the sun, now you learn from the moon as well”.
I’m willing to give it a chance, but I’m HIGHLY skeptical that this will be anything but bad.
“It’s a reward for being good!” Oh, lovely, so Fluttershy gets a horn? She’s been the pony I’d associate with “good”, far more than anypony else. If it’s all about giving, like it was hinted in the interview… um, Rarity? Seriously.
Also, that’s fairly horrifying if they have considerably extended lifespans/immortality: so the only reason you’re dying now is because you weren’t good enough? Yeah, that’s a final thought I want: “I’m dying because I was worthless”. Yeah, charming.
“You look just like a princess!” Um, Blueblood was a prince and he doesn’t have wings. There’s something a wee bit sexist when the four princesses are recognized on sight and are (supposed, Luna looked to be a more complex character than that for a while) goodness incarnate, and the one prince is a wingless stuck-up priss who happens to be distantly related to Celestia and Luna. It’s not exactly overtly so, and I pray completely unintentional (if it’s “only girls can be alicorns”, for example, then it’s intentional), but that still rubs me the wrong way.
And since the (one) episode’s main plot isn’t even ABOUT the transformation, I have a bad feeling that it’s going to be a slapped-on underdeveloped mess.
TLDR: I can whine about whatever ill omen I damn well please.

You mean like Mare-do-well, where everyone acted like a dick to pick on the local Superman in her Booster Gold-esque phases (Superman did have that phase), until they overblew Dash’s ego to unrealistic proportions, overblew the other 5’s ability to act like jerks, and in the end made us sympathize with RD more then them cause they were just being cruel?
Yeah, that was GOOD complaining. The complainiing helped us appreciate the characters more.
The biggest problem is that Twilight’s gotten a lot worse streak then Dash as of late, and unlike Dash, she never is treated with barely any disrespect at all. She can get away with pretty much anything. The world revolves around Twilight, and not in a well-written way.
Not all of it is her fault in story but…
…who else got a rather annoyed feeling when she sang the Failure Success song? I’m sorry but sympathy did not come to mind when most of the song was about how she was pretty much perfect, but she’s doesn’t feel COMPLETELY perfect until she saves a kingdom on her OWN!?
Tidus: “This is my story. (no it isn’t) And it will end the way I want it to.” (you don’t deserve for this to be your story alone)
That’s what it feels like.
That’s one of only two or three concessions i’ll give the anti-twicorn crowd: It’s somewhat abrupt.
Even if the episode executes the concept of twicorn well, the abruptness of it may be the only bad part of said episode
Once there’s a bad episode or news of corporate meddling from hasbro and you don’t witness any drama, then everything is fubar.
As it stands, it’s pretty much a couple of cryptic references at the beginning of the season before “Hey! Twilicorn!”
Hear hear!
