Oh you mean you were under “Anon.” Understandable, as some don’t wish to commit to the site, and just wanna chat casually, or privately.
I’ve here more time than you could think…
I’m not following you if that’s what are you thinking, but I was here even before the debut of the G5. As an anon user, because honestly, having accounts in sites like this, for some reason stresses me.
When was I Anon recently, and how would you even know that?
Edited
I sadly confirm you that, in the few times I saw you as an Anon user, I confused you with him.
Now I’m actually paranoid people will confuse us, or think we’re the same person. Lol

tl:dr It’s not about animal people, it’s about style matching tone.
@TexasUberAlles
To cover a few points,
I’m not saying it isn’t possible for such a show to exist. I’m trying to say that certain art styles and show formats lend themselves better to certain tones than others. FiM could touch upon darker subject matter but had to frame it in a fantastical way instead of talking about it directly, not only due to the target demographic but its style as well. PL is even more exaggerated and simplistic than FiM, so the darker subject matter is likely to be completely avoided.
To try to put it in comparison to another colorful animal show, Aggretsuko draws comedy from the dissonance between the art style and subject matter. Something like it could have premiered on [adult swim]. A dramatic series, with the same artsyle, would have a harder time being taken as seriously were it to be animated in a different style.
Thanks for turning me onto to Beastars though. I’ll have to check this out.
Edited because: clarification
I think it should be easy to tell us apart. lol
YOU’RE THE WRONG BEAU, STOP CONFUSING ME
I like Beastars.
Not a fan of Beastars, then?
@TheSultanAkbar
Agreed. The art style is very different from my Angel Bunny example. The line work, coloration (or lack thereof) and shading fits the tone of the comic. You can sell a comic publisher a personal story about the Holocaust using anthropomorphic mice and cats. You’d have to be a hell of a salesman to get a production company to make, let alone get aired, a crime drama with pastel colored animals talking about rape and murder. MLP is made to sell toys. L&O is made to sell ads.
That’s drawn, bit it looks quite grungy

Sure about that?
The Umbrum definitely have a great aesthetic that would be hard to properly translate onto the show.
@TexasUberAlles
Reminds me of this.
If you made a drama like Law & Order but everyone was drawn like Angel Bunny the series would fail because of the dissonance between the style and subject matter
Bunnies, you say?
Yes. If you look at Avatat with it’s animesque designs you can pretty much tell it’s gonna be an epic.
Whereas with My Little Pony, the show pretty much says fluff at first glance.
I’d say if it tried to do something serious, it’d be weird, they are, after all, pastel coloured ponies.
You know those designs in MLP comic #36 and 37? The Umbrum? Those were sooo good, since they truly felt like they didn’t belong in the universe. Unlike the other creatures which are hard to be scary considering they all have huggable features.
I’d say it’s more a matter of tone. If you made a drama like Law & Order but everyone was drawn like Angel Bunny the series would fail because of the dissonance between the style and subject matter. The more exaggerated you make your characters appear, the more exaggerated they are expected to act.
True, true. Perhaps the difficulty in western cartoons finding a serious footing is both that the medium is perpetuated with cliches as well as being a very limiting artform. If you desire to do anything more than a saturday morning cartoon you might as well just make an anime or a live action TV series. This is talking about drama, comedy shows can fair just fine. Ed Edd n Eddy had minimal serious drama and is to me a shining example of a western cartoon.
I think it’s more about the new style and format being a limiting factor on what the series can do. It’s like Teen Titans vs. Teen Titans Go! The former definitely had sillier episodes but it could also provide serious or character driven episodes. The latter is more focused on gag humor and would struggle to provide the same level of complexity. Both series can be enjoyed, but you have to get on the shows wavelength to enjoy it.
You could say that, yeah. Though FIM hardly breached it’s age rating. I find it’s edge to be greatly exegerated. Maturity isn’t just how many things you can punch or barf on. Even the family death episode (A Perfect Pear) skitted over it’s subject matter. It’s a saturday morning cartoon, and nothing more. So Pony Life being seen as “dumbed down” is nonsense to me.
I can’t unsee that now.
Nothing, as I suppose even “kiddy” shows could be more innocent/fun for kids, and raunchier shows like “Ren & Stimpy,” or “SpongeBob” can be entertaining for kids & adults.
Though, it’s very rare to find something in the middle, MLP:FIM kinda has a good balance between the two.
It’s cute, but has some edge to it too. (Heck, Fluttershy gets barfed on by a bird in one episode.)

Well, what’s wrong with either? If it’s for literal babies, there’s not much sense in complicating things. And edgy/vulgar is a style too, I guess.
